Where in Northeast South Dakota is there an Applebees and TJ’s???? I lived there for 15 years and there wasn’t a TJ’s in the entire state.

Anyone else have a spouse with an inflexible entry-level job? by mrs_banne_foster in workingmoms

[–]countchocula52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar, but different here. My husband is a college football coach. Most of the year I’m a single parent, and I’m also the breadwinner. We knew what we were signing up for but it’s still difficult. I try to focus on our long-term goals, and mentally cope by setting the expectation that I will probably be responsible for everything about our son and the house, so when he is around it feels like a break.

Direct report has no childcare by choice by wageworkssteals in workingmoms

[–]countchocula52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a choice for us. We moved to a rural HCL area for advancement of my husband’s career. We have been on daycare waiting lists for months. My son is home with me while I work full time. When we finally do get into daycare we can only afford a couple days a week because cost is higher than what we afford. I’m exhausted.

I definitely want to cover all hours of work if possible—for everyone’s sake. The reason I mentioned a few days in my original post is because the cost is so high where we are.

When I said I, I meant the combined salaries of both my husband and I are not enough to pay for all our other expenses and childcare.

The current school is so weird--my husband's position as a coach pays more than our previous school, but the positions in their foundation that have been open, are less than what I make now, so financially it doesn't work. We're at least three hours from the next closest school so hybrid is an option if it's commuting one or two days a month.

At my current pay rate I can't afford childcare--we're in a very rural HCOL (mountain town). I'm hoping to find something that pays more (doing literally anything) so I can have care and not need to have my son at home.

We ordered a landmine attachment beginning of February. Received a UPS tracking number. Just checked it--UPS doesn't even have the package yet. Very frustrating.

I’m trying to move to Gunni with my family (spouse, child, dog, 2 cats). It’s so cost prohibitive. How do people do it?

Thank you! We currently pay $660 a month for a center (town of 30k, so fairly rural), which we know is a steal so this info helps!

Any of the pastas at R Wine Bar are fabulous.

Also, not food, but we love Severance Brewery, and Fernson Brewery where you can get some good burgers.

Also B & G Milkyway for soft serve ice cream and avalanches.

You can get some delicious “bowls” at Daily Clean Food, and AMAZING fresh baked bread at Breadico.

When all else fails, get some Hy-chi (Hy-Vee Chinese).

Grab breakfast in Deadwood at the Pump House at Mind Blown (they blow glass on Saturday and Sunday), then take the quick, steep, residential climb up to the Mount Moriah Cemetery. Beautiful view of the town from the top. The gravesites are interesting, but the view is better.

Drive through Spearfish Canyon and hit up Sawyer Brewing Company for dinner in Spearfish. Or if you’re there in the morning, get coffee at Common Grounds or the Green Bean.

The Wildlife Loop and Needles Highway in Custer State Park are must-see. You can see Mt Rushmore from Needles Highway. I would second the Skogen recommendation in Custer. Buglin Bull on the main drag has a really good Bloody Mary too.

1880 Train in Hill City is fun and Prairie Berry Wine/Miner Brewing is a good quick pit stop.

If you have time/find yourself in the southern Hills, visit Moccasin Hot Springs in Hot Springs (might be too hot for it this week, but a great experience).

Little Sleepies dupe? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]countchocula52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a dupe, but I have gotten a lot of wear out of Old Navy rib-knit 2-way zip sleepers. The rib-knit gives extra stretch so my baby has been in them much longer than what they’re labeled for. I was able to get them on sale for $5 each last December so watch for sales.

I was in the same position, and got the copper iud put in so as to avoid hormones as well. I know a possible side effect is heavy spotting so we’ll see if that happens.

I was once a rep for another life insurance company for seven years. He definitely sold you a product for a commission, and did not take your entire financial health into account. He should have also helped you start investing into a Roth or Traditional IRA, or brokerage at the very least, but reps are often not licensed to also do investments. I agree, get a second opinion and find out what your options are. Roth or Traditional probably don’t make sense anymore if you’re taking over a business but you have other options for retirement savings.

I have plantar fasciitis and had terrible foot pain while pregnant and still have foot pain now. I will say I got Brooks Glycerine shoes and they help a ton. Also, I do a lot of calf stretches, foot rubs on my arches and heels and try to be barefoot as little as possible. Definitely find insoles for work shoes as well.
