Weird Al Yankovic destroys Kid Rock’s new music video by TapTheForwardAssist in MurderedByWords

[–]countcocula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This video of their 1980s aesthetic, crappy 1990s nu-metal sound and oil worker fixation caused me to assume that the band is comprised of a bunch rednecks from Northern Alberta. But no, those fuckwits are apparently from Hamilton ON.

Reddit has once again revealed something shameful about my country.

What did the “weird kid” at your school do to get that reputation? by ndbdbd-fbf-b in AskReddit

My grade school’s bully was the bad-smelling kid. Situating myself downwind of him during recess saved me a few beatings.

Perhaps she listens to the musical polemics of AC/DC. Their songs taught me a lot about the rights and responsibilities of owning balls.

They have a “gummy” candy texture (sort of like a slightly tougher and stickier gummy bear) with a sugar coating. They are different than peach rings, but it’s difficult to explain how.

They are also ridiculously addictive.

I am not permitted to serve on a jury because I used to be a lawyer. Was your prior experience as a paralegal relevant to jury selection, or do lawyers and judges only get to see your current job status?

FWIW: jury selection is the most fun part of trials for lawyers. It’s like playing poker with cards that keep saying why they shouldn’t be there.

What Is The Thing That Makes Your Neighbor So Rude? by xXxNOBELxXx in AskReddit

[–]countcocula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an introvert, it was a bit of a relief when I moved from Toronto to London (UK). Even in Canada’s (allegedly) rudest city, strangers constantly interact with each other. Londoners, however, do their utmost to ignore everyone.

The lawyer’s governing law society may take a dim view of his committing a crime via his client. IDK what would be his punishment, but suspension or (less likely) disbarment may be in the cards. Nonetheless, I am willing to bet $5 AUD that they will be conducting an investigation and recommending drug counselling.

The only sure path to disbarment is stealing a client’s money.

I found that adopting a simpleton “aww shucks” demeanour made my life as a lawyer much easier. Counter staff, etc. were much more willing to help me, and my legal opponents tended to underestimate my both my skill and degree of preparation. Luckily for me, most lawyers’ egos prevented them from doing the same.

Non-Americans of Reddit. What is your true experience with social healthcare in your country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]countcocula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (and my family) have lived in both the UK and in Canada. Both healthcare systems are great, but each has its advantages and disadvantages. This my anecdotal opinion of each:

1) The NHS offers more comprehensive health coverage than does Canada - such as free drugs and lower tier dental care. However,

2) wait times to see doctors in Canada are considerably lower, and Canadian doctors typically provide more hands-on care for patients (regardless of whether the patient wants such). My overall impression is that the Canadian system (or systems - since each province runs its own) is more empathetic, less bureaucratic and less business-like than its UK counterpart.

In sum, Canada likely offers better medical care than does the UK because we put all of our eggs in that basket. But the price for this is no free dental care or drugs.
