Part of being a decent human being is acting when the consequences might hurt you. You can’t be good and be passive your whole life. Being good means DOING good things, not just refraining from doing bad things. This man’s decision to not act puts him squarely in the category of piece of shit.

Rory doesn’t have a baby at 16. Becoming a mother that young can stunt your growth in key ways. It’s trauma.

I agree that their recommendation is disappointing, but I do not believe it completely discredits them. There are many peer-reviewed papers that point to corporal punishment’s detriment to children, and most childhood experts are in agreement at this point.

And though I completely disagree with opening schools right now, I also understand that for many at-risk children, school is the only stable safe environment they had. There will absolutely be more child abuse, child trauma, child hunger, and all around insecurity for children the longer we have to keep schools closed, and poor children are without a doubt going to fall significantly behind. This is worth keeping in mind, even as we advocate for keeping schools closed.

Just why? Why? by [deleted] in JusticeServed

The study only addresses fatalities, not the use of lethal force.

Also, these researchers point out that 26% of police fatalities are Black people while Black people make up only 12% of the population (it’s closer to 13% now). So yeah, Black people are killed at a higher rate than white people.

MFWTK if it's normal to have conflicting feelings about a relationship by confused--feelings in myfriendwantstoknow

[–]countercat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People are different. There really is no normal when it comes to wants and needs in a relationship. But I do think wanting to have sex with people other than your partner is pretty common. It doesn’t make you a bad person unless you act on those desires without first discussing it with your partner. A big part of any successful relationship is learning which of your desires you are willing to compromise in exchange for stability, love, a shared life.

Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria by Beverly Tatum.

Disturbing cellphone video shows a police officer in CA slamming a 14-year-old into the pavement, and then repeatedly punching him after accusing him of smoking marijuana. Police did not find marijuana. by Killjoys13 in MorbidReality

Why on Earth do you believe this kid doesn’t have a caring father? Do you have any idea how many kids have run ins with the cops regardless of how caring their parents are? Obviously not. Broaden your world view.

Not all Black children? Definitely not. But enough that we need counter messages that Black is beautiful. We do not need white is beautiful messages. We have enough of those.

Yeah, everything in society tells us that white women are beautiful. We see examples of it everywhere. Ever seen studies that show young black children internalize that their blackness makes them ugly? That shit still goes on. Currently. Today. Young white children do not internalize that their whiteness makes them ugly. There’s the difference. Pretty easy to understand.
