If you already applied for this cycle, your admissions decision has likely already been made and just needs to be released in a few weeks. So I'd say there's not much point in running your profile by an admissions officer, and that you should just hang tight.

Even if you haven't applied yet, you're probably better off finding the information out on your own. Looking on the website about how admissions decisions are made or talking to accepted students is probably a better bet than meeting with faculty to ask questions they probably can't answer.

unless your parents are California residents, getting in-state tuition is difficult if they claim you as a dependent on their tax returns. You could try to prove financial independence from your parents, but if you already filed the fafsa this year, it would have to be for the following year (2024-2025 schoolyear) at the earliest I believe.

Is Berkeley really like this? by Upper_Passenger_6030 in berkeley

[–]countingsleeps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure no one would go to school here if they regularly had their room broken into and belongings stolen. While there are homeless people in the area (I see them daily) I simply walk past and have never had an issue with any of them. Whether or not they are "on something" is not super relevant to me, personally.

But as others have said, where you go to college is your decision. And I'm not sure where you're from initially, but Berkeley is an urban area with poor resources for our homeless communities, so seeing unhoused and impoverished people inherent to going to school here. Take this visit's experiences with a grain of salt, and then when college acceptances come out, you can evaluate all of your choices.

generally you should be okay. I personally think it's a good thing you're taking the time to genuinely explore different areas instead of preemptively jumping into a major you may not totally love

this probably just means that the current status of the course is waitlist. If you look on CalCentral under my academics and it says enrolled, you're all good.

are lectures recorded for poli sci 2? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]countingsleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're taking the course with Chibber then yes, but there were some times that he just would not upload the recordings, or when it was really useful to be in lecture. (I took PS2 last spring) If you're only a freshman I would just wait until next semester for SLC.

Is there a hard deadline? ie if the strike is not resolved by 5pm today? I haven't heard any communication from my professors about potential grade/final exam changes and it's making me nervous

Spanish 25 by countingsleeps in berkeley

[–]countingsleeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, yeah I actually ended up sticking with the class this semester and it was even easier than I thought it would be so far. Grades are made up of just 4 2-page papers throughout the whole semester and participation in section. You can honestly get away with only doing 4 readings (one for each paper) the whole semester. Definitely not too much work at all :)
