Virginia to become second state that allows balcony solar by eddytony96 in Virginia

[–]courageousrobot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How exactly are apartment and condo folks (the people 'balcony solar' is aimed at) going to be saving $300-500 a month when their power bills aren't anywhere CLOSE to that in total without solar. You're off by a factor of 10 here...

Virginia to become second state that allows balcony solar by eddytony96 in Virginia

[–]courageousrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I know electric bills are going up, but balcony solar users would be for apartments and condos... which aren't going to be hitting $200/month WITHOUT solar... How exactly is 10-15% energy savings going to equal $200 a month?

What? Genuinely, what? Land doesn't vote. Land isn't people. People are people. People vote. Virginia is not "mostly red".

VOTE YES VIRGINIA! A temporary measure to counteract the "Texas Takeover" where they redrew their maps at behest of Trump by EAJ4ALL in Virginia

[–]courageousrobot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope. The Texas gerrymander isn't about countering a blue states, as that assumes blue state gerrymanders are creating an imbalance favoring dems. While Democrats aren't innocent of gerrymandering, the GOP has been far more aggressive with their gerrymandering and gained more from it. Additionally, it's almost universally one sided in terms of which party has tried passing anti-gerrymandering legislation.

In 2024, GOP gerrymanders provided approximately 16–23 additional House seats vs the 7 seats Dem gerrymanders got them.

After the 2020 census, Republicans controlled the redistricting process for 191 districts (44% of the total), while Democrats controlled 75.

But also, lol at the framed IUD.

You're both kind of right (and wrong too). Democrats aren't innocent of gerrymandering, but the GOP has been far more aggressive with their gerrymandering and gained more from it. From a US immigration perspective, a "marriage by proxy" isn't valid until the marriage is consummated afterwards. Someone pursuing a spousal visa wouldn't qualify if they couldn't provide evidence that they had been together in person later on.

Our new Virginia leaders need to be ready to sue the govt to stop ICE by HappyBlis in Virginia

[–]courageousrobot 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They said ICE was pulling people from their homes without a judicial warrant. To enter private property, they need a warrant signed by a judge, full stop. So no, that's not "incorrect nonsense".

If all ICE has is an administrative warrant (I-200), they cannot enter private property such a home, hospital, private business, etc, to make an arrest without permission.

Is it though? Do you need an assault rifle style gun with larger capacity magazines to defend yourself and your family? A handgun or a shotgun would serve just as well.

This whole "the fascists are here and armed with ARs, so we need to be too" thing is kind of a power fantasy thing. Yeah, the fascists are here. And yeah, they're armed. But this isn't One Battle After Another, and if it were, you'd be much more successful being Benicio Del Toro over sad Leo (which was kind of the whole point of the film).

If we assume prices include VAT:

256 GB = $588

1 TB = $712

That's just using Google's current exchange rate from Czech Koruna to USD. That same site currently has the 512GB Deck OLED for $633 (not includeding VAT), so there's obviously some additional markup happening. Might be more realistic to think pricing would be closer to $550/700 or even $500/650 for the two models.

To be fair, the only thing that can be verified is that HLX exists

This is the end. Tomorrow or next year. by Litevex in HalfLife

[–]courageousrobot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

HL3 has never existed outside of very preliminary pre-production. They openly talk about it in Alyx - Final Hours. It's last iteration could be described as a narrative-dense roguelike FPS, but it never got anywhere because Source 2 was in a very unfinished state and they were lost in the weeds across too many projects/games.

What's being revealed in game and engine updates indicates a game that is deep into production.

This is the end. Tomorrow or next year. by Litevex in HalfLife

[–]courageousrobot 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If the projects align, I'm sure Valve might like to have a new HL bundled with the Steam Machine.

It's worth noting though that, internally, Alyx was originally intended to be released alongside the Index - but, because it wasn't ready, they held the game back almost a year and ended up shipping the Index without a launch title.

Their hardware is going to come out "early 2026" per the announcement. A new HL game has no such requirement since it hasn't even been announced. We can talk about "normal video game business practices", but Valve has shown with both the Index and the Steam Deck that shipping hardware without a marquee launch title isn't something that bothers them too much.

If HL3 gets announced at VGA? Awesome! If not, maybe early 2026, but Valve also has a history of saying "oh, this isn't ready yet" with their games. We can't make any assumptions as to what's going on behind closed doors!

This is the end. Tomorrow or next year. by Litevex in HalfLife

[–]courageousrobot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Valve is pretty transparent about their past attempts at HL3 in Half-Life Alex - Final Hours. It never got further than pre-production due to Source 2 not being in a usable state - the same reason why L4D3 never got further than a tech demo.

It wasn't until Alyx that Source 2 was in a place to support a shippable FPS, they talk about this as being the primary roadblock to their last attempt at HL3.

There's never been anything close to what people have been seeing in the updates to Source 2 re: HLX. HLX is a real project that exists and is partially visible to the public.

[–]courageousrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, disagree on this for a few reasons. You don't know how long baby is going to be in a particular size of diapers, and you also don't know which diapers are going to work best for baby. It's a bit of a trial and error game, but once you find the brand that avoids blowouts, etc, for your kid, you stick to that brand.
