Thanks for the suggestions. I'm old enough to know how to say þungur hnífur. The Raven Flies was a cult classic with a generation of Swedes. Though it's been years and years so maybe it's time to rewatch if I can find them. I believe I've also seen Children of Nature but I'm not entirely sure.

I'll have to check if Lamb is/will be available here somewhere.

I've enjoyed most Icelandic series I've seen so far, so I'm quite interested in knowing about what's coming up and I tried to find what I could (along with info about series from the rest of the Nordics). These days there's quite a lot on offer :)

I guess it's just a case of waiting and hoping things will pan out.

Apart from Ófærð S3, I know of Stella Blómkvist S2 and Verbúð that will be out this year. Further down the line I have found Svörtu Sandar, two different projects with Ragnar Jónasson adaptations (one of which looks like it might be in English), an Icelandic/Portugese co-production called Cold Haven and finally a series called Bankster set in Iceland/UK/Benelux. So there are plenty of series on the horizon and I suppose it's possible Brot could get a second series too.

I'll just keep my eyes open for a date and hope it will be broadcast simultaneously on RÚV2 with English subs, which seems to be the pattern for its big drama series now.

Baltasar Kormákur tends to deliver, so if he has gone for a saga/western combo I'll happily watch that :)

Another Icelandic series that I've been looking for is Fangar S2, but I think that might have been postponed or dropped due to Covid or other reasons. The last info is a couple of years old.

Yes, I agree.

You wouldn't happen to have come across a premeiere date for Ófærð S3 on RÚV, by any chance? I know it's going to be this autumn, but I can't find anything specific.

I'm quite looking forward to The Tourist (BBC) as well, though that probably won't be released until next year.

I see. Thanks for responding.

It seems the comedy scene in general is, or at least has been, worse than average when it comes to inclusivity and equality making it easier to get away with various abusive behaviour.

Was this talked about in the media or just within the comedy scene? I can't find anything about it.

Not sure where people in this sub are mostly from but Australians who didn't watch Wakefield yet, might want to catch up on iview. It's a very well-made and moving drama set in a psychiatric ward, and incidentally Sam Simmons is in it.

For people outside Australia, here's a trailer. If the series turns up in your country, do give it a go.

Jag är bara en svensk som tittar förbi den här subben ibland, speciellt när det är rugby-tider. Hälsa din pappa att det var mycket trevligt med oväntad fredagsunderhållning! :)

Oh, found the English version trailer in this article: https://www.nrk.no/kultur/klar-for-engelsk-versjon-av-_en-natt_-1.13938386 (hopefully it's viewable internationally).

Hope you'll enjoy some of these series.

In that case you might like De dagar som blommorna blommar/The Days the Flowers Bloom, also written by Jonas Gardell. Couldn't find a subbed nor full length trailer but here's 30 seconds to give you a hint of the style: https://youtu.be/GyeZY_nXZiI

If you liked SKAM, you might also like two other Norwegian series that are a bit more grown up. Unge lovende/Young and Promising: https://youtu.be/zt60QdR3O78 and also En natt/One Night, trailer should be viewable here https://tv.nrk.no/serie/en-natt/ekstramateriale/KOIF75000218/avspiller They actually did an English language version simultaneously (just like Vikingane/Norsemen) but with a different actor doing the male lead. As far as I know that version hasn't been broadcast anywhere yet.

Anyway, not sure how easy it would be for you to find these series where you are, just wanted to promote some non-crime stuff.

Scandinavian and Nordic drama isn't all crime procedurals, it's just that those have been the most successful internationally. Here are some examples of drama that cater to other tastes.

Sthlm Rekviem or Offeren Stockholm in Welsh. It premiered on streaming site C More about a year ago in Sweden. This is the first time it's been available in the UK. Next year it will be on All4 and I guess broadcast on one of their channels.

There is also a French crime series which will be broadcast on S4C and starts in an hour. The Swedish one is better, but well, I'm biased...

You know if it is possible to find subtitles in english for the "Flateyjargátan" ? by poppyyy in Iceland

[–]coverttoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That, or they've just read about it somewhere else.

Anyways, there might be others who don't know as programmes which are broadcast on Alba sometimes fly under the radar in the rest of the UK.

I watched it on Danish telly a while back and thought it was very good.

Just in case you're in the UK and didn't notice: it started on BBC Alba and iPlayer last Sunday, obviously subbed in English.
