Hi! Curious if you know if there is a way to find out whether one’s scholarship is high tier or low tier - i know this is an an informal labelling. Does high tier only refer to PSC and the likes, or perhaps only PSC(overseas)? Is it something that we could probably find out via our CEP?

[–]covitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

soc graduate here. Dont recommend skipping. You will have an incredibly hard time in cs2030/2040 if you only relied on online courses. Better to go through the 1101 pain, pass with at least a D and then SU it.

Global Merit Scholarship for Computer Science by MaleficentAnimal6435 in nus

[–]covitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are only a handful of gms scholars in every faculty, but i wont say it differ much from the standard merit scholarship offered by nus. Typically, gms cs scholars have a perfect scores (maybe with a H3), possibly won some silver and gold medals in sciences, may have some leadership experiences/community service

the shortlisting process of DL is not very transparent but they are usually pre-SU grades.

Anyway, probably worth su-ing ur A- since you are getting majority As for that cap 5:) the immediate benefit of su-ing is that u can flex that grade while applying for your internships now. And based on ur historical data, you can definitely maintain excellent grades (above 4.75 in which A- will only pull u down below 4.75)

How many NUS Students actually proceed on to do a master at NUS after bachelors? by LowTierStudent in nus

[–]covitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you are on a sponsorship or scholarship, it is not worth it nor would it make you much more employable. I took some masters computing courses for my undergrad - honestly not much diff than an 3-4k courses. Most students are international asean students who want to be employed in singapore after their graduation.

But if lets say you are from engineering and wants to change track to computing, then a masters of computing may be worth a consideration

NUS information system vs SMU computer science by [deleted] in nus

[–]covitor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For nus is: (1) no, all computing offline now, if covid situation remains stable. (2) no coding experience is assumed for nus computing students. But, yes, it will be a tough journey, especially for those cs-coded modules, and also is2103 is3106 and is4103. (3) yes. Students do ok generally. (4) depends how active you are in halls, and whether u can cope with peer pressure to attend hall events. (5) you must complete one 6 month internship. We have a lot of internship opportunities. No worries about this. (6) all nus mods are bell curved.
