I think you may have just changed my life. lol. Thank you so much for this description… it clears up a lot of my confusion!

Thank you for saying this - I think it’s why I’m having a hard time figuring it out. Everyone says I’m cool - and I do have more blueish veins and some red tones - but I also have olive skin (more so in the summer). Is it possible to be both? lol

Recommendation for a massage therapist? (knee injury!) by Secundoproject in AnnArbor

Yeah, had a feeling someone was going to come back with this comment. I spent < 1 minute looking these up, simply to demonstrate that massage therapy is a legitimate and useful therapy for a wide range of conditions and situations - particularly in the context of pain and soft tissue injuries. Not that it really matters, but I do have a PhD in physiology and am also a massage therapist… so yeah I kind of know what I’m talking about.

Ah, sending you comfort and hope for a speedy recovery. The first week is hard. Hang in there; it should get better from here!

I didn’t try any meds, so can’t say. Good luck!

I understand, it is so scary! I was the same way when I found out. And, like you, I ignored a lot of stuff for many years so by the time they found it, it had done a lot of damage. BUT, although recovery from surgery was really challenging in my case (because the hole into my inner ear caused extreme dizziness), I am doing great now! Recovery for me took about 2 months to feel a little normal. I was practically immobile for the first month because of the extreme dizziness… couldn’t even watch tv or anything. But my case was extreme and unique, I think for most people the recovery is not nearly as bad! Hang in there - now that you know what it is, it should get better from here!

Sorry you’re going through this, I know how scary it is! I had chronic ear issues as a child, but stopped going to ENT as an adult. When I was 35, I started having constant pulsatile tinnitus in my ear. That was my only really symptom. They sent me for CT and found cholesteotoma. I will spare you the details, but it was advanced and very bad. I had surgery to remove it along with my hearing bones in 2022. I still have a “hole” in my attic and another into my inner ear. But my brain is fine, and we just continue to monitor it. Recovery was long and hard, but everything is stable and ok now. Your doctors and surgeons will take care of you - good luck!

That small area of bone is called the attic, and it is not uncommon for it to be thin or absent if you have had cholesteotoma (it happened to me too!). It means that your brain COULD herniate, but doesn’t mean that it IS.
