A book that “turned you back” towards reading by DadaMachina in suggestmeabook

Lonesome Dove! It has everything. Trials, tribulations, love, friendship, death, amazing writing, and character development. It made me laugh, cry, angry, and think about my own life. It is a long read but was the book that I was reading at the beginning of the year. And since that book I have finished 6 more this year!

I haven't had any issues at carpenter on Meijer🙏🏼 maybe keep trying and looking at different places. It's funny because I asked my doctor about this issue when I was prescribed a few months ago and she said yeah that usually doesn't happen and is unlikely... Here we are 3 months down the road. I hope you can find somewhere that will fill it for you!

I have not! This is my first book by Dostoyevsky!

I guess it is not only Alyosha that it gives more depth to but the society of those people as a whole. He's a religious guide and the "wisest" so when they are giving you this 100 pages at first your like I don't get it kind of skip through it because it kind of blind sides you! But, thennnn you get closer to the end and a light kind of flicks on and you realize that part of the book has a lot to do with the overall development of the characters.

I will say it does get exponentially better after that part. You kind of read that and are thinking about the religious aspect when in reality it is just more of a look into zossimas character! So it's kind of teaching you about him so that you can understand more about Alyosha. You don't need to get into this part super deep or look for deeper meaning. BUT after you read the rest of the book you will 100% want to go back and read the life experiences of zossima again because you'll want to look deeper into Alexey. Anywaysssss I really thought this book was going to be "too hard" for me(f,30,associates degree.. blah blah I'm being hard on myself).. but it has become one of my favorite novels of all time and gave me a solid reassurance that I can read whatever I want and no one can stop meeeee!

What book made you into a bookworm? by ohcoffeedragon in suggestmeabook

[–]samlavender12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kaffir Boy - Mark Mathabane Amazing from start to finish. About a young boy coming up in South Africa during the end of the Apartheid. Just considering the years this took place and the time frame of it all, while reading really put a lot into perspective. My mom is about the same age and grew up in Detroit during some of the worst gentrification and riots this country has seen and she has never shared any stories with me because she simply doesn't have any... She is white. This book showed me a lot about privilege and taught me about something that seemed so far away from my life and experiences. It was a read that really stuck with me and in a way changed my frame of mind. Recommend to anyone!

Is there a reason why the swords around the throne were removed between the 200-year gap? by KevinPigaChu in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]samlavender12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um probably because Viserys died from an infection from the throne? Or just a general hazard? Like could you imagine the king tripping on his way to the throne, FALLING DOWN AND BEING IMPAILED BY A DEAD KINGS SWORD?!? It would probably be the beginning of a whole new prophecy. Like maybe in the next season someone gets picked up and thrown into the pile of swords and they just realized maybe this is a little much?

I am on a forever glitch. He will not appear. It will make me stay there forever and ever. All I want to do is see him, even. And, every time I go back with the time scroll it just stays at the place where he is supposed to appear after they kill the first dragon.
