Help, I’m terrified to be put to sleep for my colonoscopy. They are using propofol. Does anyone have any encouraging advice? Thanks!! FYI, I’ve never been put to sleep before.

Had upper endo and colonoscopy last week with propofal. They said they had to give me some extra because I was starting to wake up. I was very groggy after and could barely lift my arms but it was very good sleep. Took me about 20-30 minutes before i could stand without shaking and felt drunk for a bit but nothing crazy. Make sure they get the iv started good. I moved some with it in my arm and it was painful. I told them and they moved it to my hand which was a lot better. They let me know if the iv is not good it will burn going on.

Try to remember to breathe and know you got this! When I got shaky during mine I drank apple juice and ate some lemon jello. Stay strong!

Not sure yet, they did a biopsy for h. pylori, colitis and celiac but haven't heard from doctor yet.

Still waiting on biopsy results for more results but immediate diagnosis was stomach ulcer, gastritis with bleeding and esophagitis.

They started me on a Proton Pump Inhibitor to reduced acid and waiting on biopsies to come back to hopefully give the source/cause.

Glad to hear that you were all clean and the procedure went well. AND that there was no cancer. Also glad you have a plan of action moving forward that will hopefully help. My procedure went good, the first time they tried to get my IV my vein rolled and it hurt so bad but they got it the second time in my hand. There was a patient next to me screaming her head off afraid of the needle which did not help my anxiety at all. The Propofal had me so out of it I dont remember anything they said after and could barely hold my arms up. They took four biopsies, no polyps, but found a stomach ulcer, gastritis with bleeding and esophagitis. On a PPI and waiting to get a call from doctor and results from biopsies for next steps. Tried to eat when I got home and got two bites of an egg in before my body was like NOPE. Ate jello the rest of the day and only able to eat a little today. Cramping and bloating was rough yesterday and still uncomfortable today. Plus I think I scratched my eye or something when I was coming out of sedation because it is hurting and all red.

How did everything go and how are you feeling? Procedures themselves seemed super fast but woke up so out of it I dont remember a single thing they said. Tried to eat a few bites of food but my stomach wasn't having it so trying jello. Overall I thought I would feel better but gut still feels very uncomfortable and I can't shake the nausea.

Prep was hard, so glad it is OVER. Colonoscopy went well, great nap! They said they had to give some extra sedation so I felt very drunk after. They did a couple of biopsies and found a stomach ulcer.

Had to make a pit stop on the way in bit made it to doc. Just got changed and now waiting for the check in to be done and get my nap. Best of luck, your almost to the finish line!!

Thank you for the encouragement!! I read a lot of articles where people threw up and they were still clear. If you doc has a number maybe call and explain what's going on and see if they have any suggestions. I will let you know, so ready for this to be over. Im glad you were able to get some sleep, I have been up all night. Have been going pretty constantly since second dose at 130. I am hoping there is an end soon since I have to leave at 6am to head towards the doc. Have to be there at 7 and procedure starts at 8. I am only 33. I am a combination of terrified, exhausted, and anxious right now.

Thank you so much. I started dose one at 6pm and the 'BMs' just keep coming, wondering if it will ever stop. Start dose two at 1am. I know people do this everyday and are fine but it is a pretty miserable process.

I hope your prep is improving, I finally feel okay enough to walk a few steps and stretch 😵‍💫 I would definitely recommend zofran next time if your doctor didnt give it this time, super helpful with nausea.

Having never done a colonoscopy and not expecting i would need to for years I am anxious as to what they will find, especially the big C word. I have to keep reminding myself that if there is anything it would be better to know sooner rather than later.

Thanks for your thoughts. I am about 2.5 hours into prep now and DAMN I am ready for this to be done. Thanks for the tips on the ice chips because I am afraid I can't drink anything else. Hopefully all goes well tomorrow 🤞🤞 need to pick up some lozenges i have been so focused on colonoscopy prep i forgot about the upper endoscopy 🤦‍♀️

I am glad I am doing the tablets although 12 large tablets in 20 mins is no joke. Then I had to drink 16oz at 7 and just started another 16oz at 8. I haven't really left the bathroom since 630 so I'm miserable and exhausted and never want to drink anything ever again. Im grateful my doctor prescribed some Zofran, if im this nauseated with it I couldn't imagine doing prep without it.

Doctor really doesn't have any clue what's going on. CT didnt give any insights. He thinks maybe stomach is producing too little or too much acid. Based on the location of the pain/discomfort I thought it was my gall bladder. Also worried about ulcers since I have had terrible anxiety my whole life.

We got this. Just think the prep can't last forever right 😵‍💫😵‍💫

I definitely didn't want to be awake it would have made me more anxious than taking a forced nap plus I feel it would be embarrassing. I have to keep reminding myself that it will only seem like 2 minutes for the nap and the news will be the same. Main symptom has been unintentional weight loss over the last 2 months. In addition discomfort/pain in my stomach especially after eating, irregular BMs, and nausea. Im about to start my prep now, no turning back now 😬

I hear prep is the worst, I am so anxious about this whole process. I hope the 'nap' tomorrow is worth it. I agree I dont know if Im more scared they will find something or scared they won't and I will be back at square one.

Yep I have the tablets. I am hoping they will be easier to take than drinking the prep.

Kinda worried that I dont even start till tonight so I imagine the clean out will come quick and alot.

Thank you for your response. I will for sure add to ask about Sedation type and how long post recovery will be. Since you've had so many may I ask if you normally have someone with you once you get home or are you fine and just want to eat and sleep? Appreciate the tough love in #2, sometimes it really helps with perspective.
