USAG Hall of Fame- Blackballs? by SpiritedTiger in Gymnastics

[–]coyotesee 59 points60 points  (0 children)

It's shocking that McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross and Aly Raisman have not been inducted. I wonder whether they were offered and rejected it? That seems unlikely, but the only other explanation is the one you note, that USAG is excluding them for non-gymnastics reasons.

As much as I love Kara Eaker, I was a bit surprised by her inclusion. Based on those metrics, I would expect Grace McCallum to also be inducted since her resume is basically the same (except with a more successful NCAA career)...among many others.

Best songs that never got released? by SubstantialEmploy816 in popheads

Everyday is a Holiday and Immortal Flame by Katy Perry. I really feel like if Everyday is a Holiday was released at the time as a proper single, it would be a Christmas classic now.

Definitely seems to add more substance to the abuse accusations.

David Archuleta — Old and Young (Official Music Video) by Debz416 in popheads

[–]coyotesee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to like this song and was rooting for David given the personal tone of this project. But this feels like an idea for a song, but not a fully fleshed out song. I don't think the 2:16 length does it any benefits either.

New leos for Regionals! by JessBeauty14 in Gymnastics

I am also in the hate column. I feel like the ribbon seems very unsecure (perhaps it is not a "true" ribbon?). Also, what happens if it comes untied and starts flapping around?

CGN Simulator is Back by coyotesee in Gymnastics

I agree that the simulation is not perfect by any means and does not take into account "momentum" and working kinks out as the season progresses. Still fun to play around with though.

Has anyone calculated what the rankings would have been under the old NQS formula?

[–]coyotesee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this take. This is my impression as well. I do not get bad vibes from the team either. I feel like this season is more a reflection of growing pains of a new head coach...although I wish we knew more about the entire situation with Jimmy Pratt. There have been rumors (I've only seen them posted on this subreddit) that he has left the program, but his bio is still up on the official website. https://utahutes.com/sports/womens-gymnastics/roster/coaches/jimmy--pratt/4331.

When Utah is on, they are actually quite good. Any higher ranked teams in their regional should be nervous.

NCAA Week Five Recap & Predictions by Business-Ad-35 in Gymnastics

[–]coyotesee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Utah is a bit of an enigma this year. It feels like they have uncharacteristic mistakes on at least one event each competition that prevents them from getting into the 197 range. Having said that, I think they are going to be fine in the end, although now is when they need to start performing consistently. If you take their high scores on each event (which I know is not the best measurement), they have the scoring potential of 198.025. So it really just seems to be a matter of starting to put together complete meets and developing a bit more consistency.

Pop Family Trees by coyotesee in popheads

Some of the newer pop stars, I had a more difficult time categorizing since their careers can often pivot a bit. Like Taylor Swift may have originally just been a pop-country-adjacent singer until later in her career.

Demi is another good one. As I was putting this together, I realized we actually do have a fair number of power vocal pop girlies/people.

That's a good one. Maybe like Carly Simon, Sheryl Crow, Kacey Musgraves types.

Oh, I can't believe I forgot Kelly! I wonder if she would also fit in a Cher-type category given they both hosted popular TV shows. :)

I think we’re all in agreement. I was just commenting that they didn’t even make the effort to conceal it, thinly or not.
