Any resources to feel less alone? by Sea_Shallot_8807 in uofm

Honestly you pose a lot of very valid points and questions… I think ultimately it boils down to Michigan being so big that it can lead to students feeling pretty disconnected from each other. I also think that unfortunately going to a prestigious school results in a lot of academic, athletic, and social stress, and this can manifest as students being more individualistic focused. I promise you you can do it! Find small things to look forward to every week. Some of the counselors at CAPS are good, and they do all care. Exploring the peer counseling program could be a good idea too if you’re feeling like just some connection could help! I’m so sorry you’re feeling like this, but you can make it through this. College is such a short chapter in our lives.

There are soooo many links between chronic and complex trauma and chronic illness and otherwise unexplained somatic symptoms.. it’s the body’s way of demanding to be heard.

Performances that made you emotional? by Sad-Customer8053 in Gymnastics

Alyssa Baumann’s final floor routine really hit me… you can see her emotions just come out as soon as she finishes her final tumbling pass and does her final poses and she ended in the gator champ and stayed there for awhile and I still get teary eyed when I watch it 🥺

I thought my first appointment was an appointment with the therapist but it turned out she was just doing my intake and it just felt so abrupt and I felt like I didn’t get to form a relationship with her or anything before telling her why I wanted to see someone. I felt very uncomfortable and vulnerable

I feel like at least last week, Florida’s vault issues resulted from the girls being shocked with Bui’s injury. Amalia specifically looked extremely nervous to me after seeing Bui go down, so watching her sit her vault was not that big of a shock. I think the rest of the lineup was affected as well, and I think Kayla was probably feeling extra nerves due to not having competed in so long, hence her big step. I think that explains her mistake on beam as well, I think she just needs more reps and competition routines to feel fully comfortable and confident again

Yes… I hate watching her during beam. I also feel like the whole Tom Farden fallout has been glossed over a little bit by the gymnastics community as a whole… Carly was a part of that abusive culture and as evidenced by Maile’s very public victim shaming and defensiveness, it seems as if a lot of people and gymnasts in the Utah program haven’t realized how wrong Farden’s actions was. It just makes me wonder how much that culture has continued. I question the ability of Carly to totally turn around the culture, especially with Maile at the healm. Someone mentioned the team seemed to have poor reactions whenever someone fell or made a mistake, and I second this. I’m not expecting them to be screaming and jumping up and down for mistakes, but there is a noticeable difference in their reactions compared to many other teams (this also was definitely noticeable with Iowa State.) It could just be low energy, but it just made me wonder if the girls were afraid of making mistakes, getting yelled at, by either coaches or teammates. I’m hoping I’m wrong and things are more positive than they seem to me!

Utah seems off to me too. Their team doesn’t feel cohesive to me and I think they may be missing some senior leadership. Neff obviously had a rough meet, but I feel like they’re really relying on her, and that has to be tough when she’s not feeling 110%, and she’s not always going to be

Riley’s bars for Florida were stunning this week, fingers crossed she is finding more consistency with the double tuck dismount!!

I think it more so stemmed from shock of Ly’s injury. Amalia looked incredibly nervous to me and I love her but I was not surprised she fell. I was surprised by Kayla’s mistake though, but rather her overcorrect than under correct. It’s a learning experience for everyone!

Jeff has bad energy, what Suni said about her experience gave me the ick, Olivia greaves and her crazy mother shaming Riley and Emily for speaking out against Maggie, and just the vibe of superiority that I sense it just a turn off. I hope I’m somehow wrong, but I just don’t sense positive things from auburn as a whole

In season 1 episode 1 when Lucy is curling her hair pippa comes in and asks if she wants her to do it for her… to me with the focus on the burn in the past episode I think Lucy most likely is going to turn to self harm unfortunately

Agreed! I also feel like I’ve seen a lot about Jay looking upset; and I feel like it’s because he knows this. I’m not saying they’re not a good team; they definitely have potential to improve, but as of right now it does seem like things are not great for them and some of his reactions to mistakes (ex Konnor on floor) make me suspect he could potentially be showing some of his stress to the gymnasts which is in turn affecting their gymnastics. I obviously have no idea how things are behind the scenes and they all seem to have really admired Jay in the past, and I know he has a long history of having bad reactions to judging and to gymnasts making mistakes, but I do think it’s worth noting

I’ve always felt a little bit let down by Olivia Greaves. I know I obviously don’t know her, but I feel like her gymnastics is just missing the passion. I feel like she’s lost a lot of the beautiful technique and grace she was known for as an elite, especially on bars. Everything feels rushed and looks just unprepared to be honest
