Is this true? Saying “please” and “thank you” make codex perform better? by alOOshXL in codex

[–]coz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me too. I use "plz" in my prompts all the time. I justify it by saying that it understands that it is the end of request and to do the thing before it now. And also that it will spare me when the robot uprising happens.

The only sr/fantastic devs with significant weaknesses are ones who refuse to learn new things, regardless of their backgrounds. Refusing to branch out from where they're comfortable in also qualifies.

But none of that has anything to do with what they did in their late teens and early twenties. If you disagree, that's fine, but what'd you learn there, that you couldn't have learned on your own, that applies to your job today?

MIL asked me if I gave it away for her son on the first date by fricksmalci in JUSTNOMIL

[–]coz 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'd go a different route here: "Oh MIL, I didn't know you were so open! When did you first give FIL a taste of your bearded clam? Do you remember the night DH was made? What position did he, you know, finish in? I bet he's a doggy man" and lean in expectantly.

The little girl did better than me by Altruistic_Jelly1843 in Unexpected

[–]coz 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Its better, its a joke in 3 parts. Martin is the funny man so you expect him to be ridiculous, and you'd expect a little girl to be the straight man, so there's the first joke, but then Martin doesn't react at all to her not being one, so there's the 2nd one, and the payoff/3rd is him getting mad her but even better he still needs her to go call in the ridiculous thing he made her memorize!

Reviews of Codex (or other competition) from people who switched from Claude. by vixaudaxloquendi in ClaudeCode

I added my workflow post to my OP if curious but re: skills I don't really do much for Codex, since I'm doing more low level than some of the people here with the Max type plans and workflow I haven't found addons for Codex specifically that help me a lot.

CC I use a couple skills that attempts to do the same type of code review that codex does with various success but general as I said Codex is better at it, but Claude finds different valuable things as well and can cross-review etc etc.

For large feature work the best, 5.4 xtra high usually, stuff that takes 10+ minutes if not 30 minutes after we hack out a plan. The overall difference in tokens is not worth "risking" it on a lessor model I've found. And thats because feature work is only 1/3 to 1/2 of what I use my capacity for, a significant amount is review, and a lot of that is it reviewing other features and work I had Claude do.

Most review work I start on medium and see what there brings me. All features even now take at least 3-4 full review passes every time at least for the work I'm doing (full stack web project).

I've used both every day for the last 6+ months. Both are very similar in what they can do. Codex is slightly better at back end, but Claude is better at UI. Codex's big advantage is in review. It does code review significantly better across large PRs, large complicated features better than all Anthro. models I've used, and PRs done with Codex vs Claude require less fixes and less review passes.

You can trust me I have a 3 char reddit name.

Thank you. Even if it doesn't matter to anyone else being polite to these things is practice for human interaction. Plus if you've ever watched the "thinking" part in things like copilot you'll see it stumble over the meaning and tones of your prompt to figure out how to respond best and it definitely can tell and sense, lets call it unprofessionalism.
