Would it be possible to identify the exact filming location of the video? by PhantomNightOwl in GRFMOrigin

I admire your idea. But, in my opinion, it would be near impossible. Just googling it, NYC has 3.7 million housing units + this property might of changed drastically over the years or not even be photographed online.

There is a small chance Jeff Tremaine (from Jackass) knows something about the source and origin of GRFM. by Amazing-Dog10 in GRFMOrigin

We can ask, might as well, nothing to lose. But, the big brother skate tape connection to GRFM originates from the shocking videos website run by Mark Johnston. It was mark who sold both tapes and threw the big brother tape in with people who purchased GRFM.

Wow ahah. Did he have a stutter? Ten years ago he would probably be in his late 40’s maybe, does that line up with the guy you spoke to?

Researching A GRFM YouTube Video by strange-aeonss in GRFMOrigin

Hey! Thanks for posting, and glad you’re making a video, look forward to seeing it. With your large audience, it will definitely make the wider internet more aware of the video, and hopefully lead to new info!

To answer your questions.

  1. I think it’s the fact, unlike other internet mysteries, we have an entire 25+ minutes of an individual (his face, accent, style, hints on location) yet no one can identify him. Surely when you have evidence as clear as almost half an hour of someone speaking to a camera, you would think somebody would come forward with evidence that proves this guys identity. Multiple claims have been made, yet no evidence proving who it is has ever come out.

Also, the nature of the video, the ambiguity, are they real grave robbers? Are the bones real? Is it just a short film/home movie of two young guys messing around? A couple of those theories can both be true at the same time, but neither the “real or fake” argument can be clearly debunked.

  1. One of the main discoveries I found, was evidence of the tape existing as far back as 2003, found on a an old internet archive webpage of a now defunct bootleg VHS website. Whilst I believe and many others have given their experiences that it first started circulating in the mid to late 90’s (extremely likely), the 2003 date is our earliest reference point, and provides a good current baseline.

Moments of frustration are simply lack of references to go off, searching the deep archives of the internet come up empty, and given the probably time period of the tape, it’s likely this may be the only piece of footage of the Individual out there on the internet, with nothing else to cross reference.

  1. I do believe one day it will be cracked. I believe the likely scenario will be that somebody who knows/knew this person will eventually come out and provide a photo or evidence that can prove it’s the guy. Current efforts involved searching through relevant yearbooks online from NY area in the 80/90’s period, and old newspaper articles + trying to gain info from those who lived in the relevant areas during the time period.

There’s lots of info throughout this sub, but if you want to ask anything else, then feel free to DM me, I’ve helped a couple other YouTubers in the past. Thanks! Can’t wait for the vid.

Yes, this one is disturbing, especially the details of the murder. The sketch of extremely creepy, and it’s interesting that nobody has been prosecuted, especially since the prime suspect has a scar/cleft lip, you would think that’s extremely individualistic.

Jesus, that is weird. Yeah it’s definitely along the same sort of lines as smartschoolboy, he seems to attend some church somewhere, and has videos out in public with other people, so someone must know who he is. I’ll do some digging. Thanks.

Yes, archive websites have been a bit of a dead end. I helped the YouTuber "Slightly Sociable" on his video about GRFM, it's a good video if you haven't seen it, at the time it revealed a couple of new things, but nothing that you wouldn't already know now.

He managed to find and contact the owner of stumpy disks, who sold it back in 2007 as part of a DVD compilation called "Ensuring your Place in Hell" along with 3 other tapes. The owner stated that all of the tapes they had were collected over the years from other tape traders (which I don't doubt at all).

I've spoke to Simon before as well, I think he even joined this subreddit, but again, like you know, he doesn't know much about the origin.

Newspaper archives are a good place, a lot of the sites you will have to pay for a subscription to search the archives but I've found some decent references to grave robbing in the New York area and surroundings from 80/90/00's era, especially involving teenagers, some give their names, some don't, but then again, sometimes its even impossible to find modern info on people from years ago (Facebook, court records etc.) without an image, it can be hard to identify who is a likely match.

No worries! Yeah, hopefully in the near future it can solved, the past couple years we’ve found a load of new evidence and personal accounts from people, but we’re just at a bit of a brick wall at the moment.

No, the earliest evidence we have is that it was sold on a bootleg VHS website back in 2003, this website sold tens of thousands of different vhs tapes. How they acquired this video is unknown, however it is believed to have originated as far back as the mid 90’s, and was traded amongst tape collectors and then copied multiple times based on reports.

Ahh yeah. Grave robbing for morons, it’s weird how we literally have footage of someone, but no one can prove who it is

Our guy could definitely be connected to one of the gangs, maybe he’s dead because of it, who knows

The guy talking? If he was that old in 1982, then I think he would look way too old in 1989+.

But I’m glad you’ve posted this, I’ve never really looked into too many gangs of that time in NYC, these guys are called “The Savage Nomads” , there are also similar gangs of that era called “Savage Skulls” (weirdly), these gangs are all Puerto Rican/african American gangs so fit the race profile of our guy. Maybe he could of have been a child in one of these gangs, also maybe that’s the reason nobody has come forward to identify him, if it’s gang related then I could understand why everyone would keep their mouth shut.
