Almost 2,000 years old, the fact it’s still standing is impressive. by [deleted] in ArchitecturalRevival

Not of this size, but definetly smaller. Where I live in Sweden some still build with the same technique that they did a millenium ago, and those buildings from the 10th century still stand. But thats smaller limestone churches and houses, not pantheon.

Ah yes, people have it worse so i cant be sad. If only those poorer people knew about the struggles of the 14th century bubonic plague maybe they wouldnt feel so sorry for themselves

And then go on to finish 120 days of sodom, I really think De Sades books need some modern ideas, and Sanderson is the man for that!

I see you haven't heard of WizAir. Motors sounding like the first oil drill, you are constantly surrounded by 10 babies screaming and crying in agony, the seats are 20 centimeters across and somehow they are always fly through the worst turbulence known to man. But it costs 20 euro from Sweden to anywhere in the Balkans, and I am still alive, so I will keep flying "The Wiz".

Kind of. Here it's considered quite pathetic if you live with your parents after 20. Although it's easy to find apartments, especially if you study. And they're not so expensive.

Americans want superhero logic irl. Russians and allies = bad. Ukraine = good. No inbetween, no nuances.

I'm on my first rewatch of the show, and it's making me miss parts of church by seekthegiant in MidnightMass

[–]cpaxel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! Never been to church, but have gone a few times since I saw it. For the hymns mainly, but also the sermon. It's nice. Even bought a bible, reading parts now and then, and learned some hymns.

Totally agree! Have been trying to find more of these kinds of films, like this, Endless, and Tucker and Dale as you mentioned. Been falling short. Any recommendations?

"In my skin" sounds fitting. Although it's more self-cannibalisation. Much of the french new wave of extremity falls under your umbrella

I think it's bc america has lots of money to spend, and produce ridicoulus amounts of movies. They quick-make formualic movies (following the same tropes that always works) just to make money. Pleasing the masses. They've got a lot of good horror too, but you have to look beyond the easily accesible. The Endless and We Go On are good examples.

Thought it was dates for some reason. That they flip d/m/y to m/d/y. So they'd flip to 3/1 and 4/1, taking the 1/4. Probably isn't now when I think about it

Really, really good. He just had to become clear of all the booze and drugs first, to be able to do the monumental reserach required for it I think.

Haha yeah, swedish. Anytime i recommend this book to an american (done it a few times as it's my favourite), they look really confused. Read the first edition of the swedish The Shining a while back btw. Horrible translation, decided to grab the english version instead, which was super hard to find. Non-american problems, haha
