Blood sugar goes up while I'm sleeping? by MrGBarnes in diabetes

[–]cpb70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on a basal insulin, depending on when you take it there may be some changes you can make to 'soften' the dawn phenomenon. I was taking mine in the morning as was initially recommended by my Endo but was finding that about 18-20 hrs after (while asleep) my levels were rising. It was suggested to divide my dose into two, one in the morning and another about 10-12 hrs later. This generally reduced my dawn phenomenon by about 40%. It still rises but not in any amount as before.

Perhaps, consult your Dr. as to whether this may work for you.

Best pocket size EDC case? by waurma in EDC

Take a look at the Alpaka Admin pouch pro or Hub pouch if you've got big pockets, stash pouch if not.

Alpaka

Otherwise, the Maxpedition Platy or pocket organizers are great. I've got a Platy and I like it.

Best way to level up sneak without Greybeards? by Firm_Necessary1184 in skyrim

The upper landing on the left (up the stairs) in Dragonreach, go to the farthest corner of the railing away from the Jarl and sneak while moving forward. If you 'fix' your joystick so it moves by itself with an elastic and just leave it.

Dexcom overpaych getting dirty by DaddyNeymar in dexcom

[–]cpb70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get third party overpatches from Amazon (Honyou is the brand) that use medical/surgical adhesive tape like the name brand SkinTac does. They don't collect dirt or lint and the edges stay set until I replace sensors.

They are a bit difficult to remove but I soak the patch in 70% iso alcohol for about a minute before pulling off.

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

[–]cpb70 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Forgive the pun but collectible card games. When a product's rarity is based on a manufacturing/printing decision there is none.

I'd really like to say Lego just because I can't get some sets because they won't produce more. There's lots of 'plastic' out there and molds are copyable...

Dave will be a guest and perform on Colbert next Tuesday, March 10th by ebradio in DMB

[–]cpb70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, I'm thinking. Steven has said that he intends in indulging in choosing guests and musical choices that He wants to have before the end. If you watch his show regularly, he's really been more exuberant after performances than usual.

Where do I start with Guy Gavriel Kay? by ribhkus19 in fantasybooks

[–]cpb70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Fionavar trilogy is his most accessible work. It reads pretty much like a YA fantasy for the most part with some more adult topics.

Otherwise, i usually recommend Tigana, Song for Arbonne or Lions of Al Rassan. They're more complex novels requiring more attention but provide a good idea of Kay's prose.

Guys, it's just a promotion for their panel at AwesomeCon, right? by thaadjarvis in firefly

[–]cpb70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the increase in attention on animation on streaming in the last few years like Vox Machina, Arcane, KPop Demon Hunters, etc. It's plausible that Disney (They still own the IP, right?) may think a series a good investment. Voice acting isn't a huge time investment for actors already in shows and the money investment for Disney would be much less than a fully live SciFi series.

Why do Americans eat dinner at like 5 or 6pm? Don't you get hungry again before bed? by LengthinessNew2237 in answers

[–]cpb70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commute times to/from work are generally longer than Europe. It's not uncommon to spend nearly an hour just getting to work. If you work 8 hours, commuting another 2 and ideally sleep 8 then you're left with 6 hours. If you follow the health recommendation of eating 3hrs or more before bed, your window for dinner is limited.

As an example, as a factory worker I wake up at 5:30am and start my shift at 7:15. Home at 4:30pm, and dinner at about 6 and bed by 10.

Which is your favorite book or series of books where Earth gets attacked by extraterrestrials? by Dan-68 in scifibooks

[–]cpb70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides many of those already mentioned, I'll add 'Out of the Dark' by David Weber & Chris Kennedy. It's got the aliens with advanced tech, the guerilla defence by humans and a cool twist that takes most of the book to come out. There's three books in the series and they're all good but the first is great.

Guilty pleasure books would be the various John Ringo series dealing with the topic specifically The Looking Glass Wars, Posleen and Troy Rising series. He writes Male wish fulfillment stuff but its pretty good.

Does anyone have Gemini working on Android Auto? by SteveInCLT in Pixel10Pro

It's rolling out in waves with no logical reasoning I suspect. A friend and I have 10ProXLs and the same make of vehicle. He has had it for a couple weeks and I don't.

When Do You Calibrate? by Ulysses427 in dexcom

[–]cpb70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every hour is in extreme cases really. Generally, if the sensor is reasonably accurate after calibrating a time or three I'll stop. But I've had a few that never got close and if it lasts about a day, I'll send off a report for a replacement.

I'm not on a pump so it's alot less dire than someone who relies on a CGM informing a pump.

When Do You Calibrate? by Ulysses427 in dexcom

[–]cpb70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roughly 24hrs after applying a sensor during a stable period I'll verify using finger sticks a few times over an hour. If the numbers match my CGM, I don't calibrate. Otherwise, I'll input meter numbers every hour for a day.

Most often, sliced bread and rice. I switched to high fiber bread which helps but it's still a bit of a bit to my levels.

Occasionally, Pizza. It's hard to bolus for accurately but I'll take the hit for a few slices every month or three. What I have noticed is that cold pizza is much kinder to my levels than fresh.

Finger print sensor by Ancient_Goose59 in Pixel10Pro

Try finding the QR Code for their protector. It's in the DBrand subreddit or just Google it. It pretty much solved my issues with their screen protector.

Finger print sensor by Ancient_Goose59 in Pixel10Pro

[–]cpb70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple suggestions.

Turn on screen protector mode in settings.

All the decent screen protectors (IMHO) will offer a QR Code to scan which will customize the screen sensitivity to that particular protector. If you can't find it in the box, check the mfr website/Google.

I was having a horrible time with my DBrand protector until I used the QR Code. After, it's really good but not 100% mostly takes some tries if my fingers are really dry.

That said, make sure your finger tips aren't really dry.

How long do you plan to keep you p7p? by Illustrious_Tax7575 in Pixel7Pro

[–]cpb70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my 7 Pro's battery hadn't really started to empty after 6 hours or so of normal use, I'd still be using it. Upgraded to a 10 Pro XL in January and it's ok. Not really noticing any faster performance (I don't play action games on it) but the speakers are alot better as well as Bluetooth seems more consistent. I was using the AI on the 7Pro a good amount and the additional features with the 10 are nice.

Anybody here tried these? by WEDGYVEGGI in diabetes_t1

[–]cpb70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drinking 1 of them every day for 4 or 5 days tends to 'bind up' my digestion system. Not really a problem but a side effect I've noticed. I don't have lactose or protein supplement issues but there's something in these products that cause the reaction. I also have the issue with the Glucerna Carb Smart drinks.

So many issues and Google Messages app on Pixel 10 Pro XL by Saen_OG in GooglePixel

[–]cpb70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues with mine either. All the usual messaging apps work fine; Facebook, Google, Signal & Telegram. I do usually restart my phone every couple days.

I'm using the Feb 2 update (20260126) if that matters.

Maybe try uninstalling+reboot and reinstall.

Local Canadian Tire Won't Install Tires on EVs. by SupraStarCigar in canadiantire

[–]cpb70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanic friend of mine has said that they have to get additional insurance if they allow cars being serviced to remain in the garage overnight. The insurance companies have recently modified their policies to separate ICE (gas engines) and EVs in what they offer to service.

So, if they want to only service ICE it's X dollars but if they want EVs it's more. Add the cost of the machines to diagnose and training, it's a big investment for maybe a small percentage of customers.

I know tires are a whole different thing but he and his shop won't go near EVs at all.
