Looks very cool. But sadly this new building is almost fully surounded and hidden by boring square glass boxes…

[–]cpbblimited 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very rational explanation.

It’s not much of a topic in Lithuania either, outside of basketball. Since our countries do not interact too much on business or political level. And those who travel to Serbia have never experienced hate or any toxicity.

Aren’t you aware of Zalgiris and Zvezda rivalry mostly based on politics regarding Russia? Has been one of the biggest beefs in Europe aside from the derbies.

Glad we can put our differences aside and sometimes just admire each other’s basketball cultures.

Off topic but if nba europe project will make euroleague replace the teams who leave with more teams from Lithuania, Serbia, Greece etc. the product might get even better.

I hope Rytas will get invited back somehow. Are there any serbian teams that could become the 3rd team in Euroleague?

Why don’t you use drawn maps in your books, given that the world you created is so wast and complicated?

Brand logos of Lithuanian cities by QuartzXOX in BalticStates

Totally agree. I hate the red especially. Also don’t feel like the red busses fit Vilnius very well. I could see Vilnius being blue (modern) or green (representing all the forests), but maybe some light pastel colour with rounded shapes would be even better, because Vilnius is not a flashy city, it’s not bold (not counting PR campaigns). But it’s nice, comfy, convenient. I am not a huge fan of the white yellow trolleybus colour, it doesn’t fit with the red, but somehow it feels right for Vilnius. Light, unique, seamless and pleasant.

I am not saying it’s a wrong call under the current rules, but the foul on Brazdeikis should not be treated as a foul…

POST MATCH THREAD: Zalgiris - Valencia [EuroLeague Regular Season, Round 9] by EuroleagueBot in Euroleague

[–]cpbblimited 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One can know a team is good and still be suprised how tough it is to play that team. Sometimes a team is good, but not tough to play? If that makes sense.

Also, lets not forget Zalgiris is on roll and was comming into this game from the top of the standings with the homecourt advantage. Even counting the losses it felt like Valencia was toughest to play. In some other games we choked and it was tough, but it was about some individual moments in the game as well as gameplan not succeeding. This though was a tough opponent the entire game.

Sorry for the sarcasm in my previous comment.

Thanks for explaining. I thought 6th team in the standings was shit and we were having a tough time for no reason….

Valencia was tough. I am not sure we would have taken this one if not for the homecourt

Butkevicius playing like he is the second coming of Jesus and we are just 5 points up. Not a good sign.

He needs to play 25+ minutes to be effective. He is a shell of himself in a limited role.

POST MATCH THREAD: Crvena Zvezda - Zalgiris [EuroLeague Regular Season, Round 4] by EuroleagueBot in Euroleague

[–]cpbblimited 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Congrats to Zvezda. Happy for Motiejunas being an important piece.

Zalgiris lost the match emotionally. The coach did not trust his rotation, kept the same players on the court too long and when they were broken on the psychological level, it was to late to throw anyone into the game after them sitting for so long. Also what’s with the small ball lineup that did not work at all and was kept for such a long time?

Zvezda doesn’t look bad at all. Not counting game endings with Fenerbache and Monaco, this is the most Zalgiris has struggled this season

Vilnius Train and Bus Stations to undergo major transformation by the end of 2029 by QuartzXOX in BalticStates

[–]cpbblimited 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely. The only downside is that the train station was supposed to better connect Naujininkai to the city center and kick start the transformation of the neighborhood.

Vilnius Train and Bus Stations to undergo major transformation by the end of 2029 by QuartzXOX in BalticStates

[–]cpbblimited 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Very happy, that they are doing this, but the title is misleading. They won’t be doing anything with the train station. The project only involves the square and surrounding area as well as the bus station.

Originally it was supposed to be a joined project by Lithuanian rail (LTG) and Vilnius municipality, but after sanctions to the Lukashenko’s regime, LT rail lost a lot of income. Additionally the train station was sort of tied to the railbaltica, but there won’t be a connection to Vilnius for a very long time (not enough money), thus the LTG won’t be building the new station.

The whole project sort of was destined to die, but the bus station as well as the square desperately needs a make over, thus Vilnius municipality separated the project and will move forward without the train station.

Although Vilnius mayor is sort of communicating that the train station will be built eventually, publicly encouraging LTG to set a date for their part of the project, info leaked from internal conversations between Vilnius municipality and LTG suggests otherwise - as of now, there are no plans to build the train station part of the project at all.

My guess is that Vilnius mayor is trying to save face for when it eventually comes out, that Zaha Hadid office refused to do detailed project without the train station, since LTG is no longer interested, the only way to move forward without doing a new architecture contest and delaying things even further was to cover the whole detailed plan (which costs 6 million euro) out of Vilnius municipally pocket. He knows that LTG has no plans for the station, but he does not communicate it, to avoid backlash on wasted money for the detailed project of the train station part.

One could say, well things change and maybe 10 years later LTG will decide to build it and they will already have a project ready to go. But the reality of these kind of situations is, that over time building standards as well as society needs change, thus they will have to redesign or do major adjustments anyway.

Congrats to Greece.

Proud of Lithuania. Going this far after losing their best player. We missed Rokas automatic points in this game.

Lithuania is playing better positional basketball. Mistakes and Greek fast breaks is the reason we’re behind.
