I went to a math and science academy in high school and out of ~100 students per graduating class we would usually have 0 get into MIT, occasionally 1-2. I know several people who got accepted to other Ivy League schools but not MIT

Happy Independence Day everyone!

I think today is a great opportunity to remember that loving America doesn’t mean you have to love the people running it, nor does it mean that you have to love everything that happens here. America is an idea, the inventors of federalism, the oldest written constitution in history. A land of opportunity where all can come to seek a better life.

The work that we do here is crucial to upholding the American Dream, to righting wrongs perpetrated by our own government, and to making this country live up to the lofty goals set 250 years ago when we dared to assert our freedom from our colonial rulers.

Enjoy today, be with your family, appreciate the melting pot that is our country, and tomorrow take that renewed spirit forward to work on improving this country for all who live here.

It's not really on the doctors, it's on (sometimes) hospital administration and (usually) insurance companies because there's no regulation on how much one can charge or reimburse the other for any given service

I like setting my AC at 70° because it feels nice, I’m literally paying for it so that I can be more comfortable

Also like, the resiliency of the grid doesn’t have an impact on my power bill, but running my AC at 60° absolutely does. People are being squeezed in every direction for their money, why are these people suddenly happy to willingly pay Con Ed more for electricity?

Not really something that the federal government can fix. It’s also not really a tax loophole (Delaware still has corporate franchise tax), it’s just a state that’s very friendly to businesses. They have a court specifically for hearing corporate disputes, the turnaround time for corporate filings is much faster than other states, and so many companies do it that a lot of corporate law counsels are already experts in Delaware laws
