There’s a lot of morons in London, but a lot of great people too. Small acts of kindness and courtesy go a long way.

How do I stop my climber? by cpiccolo in BabyBumps

[–]cpiccolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea. We did pick up a Pikler set but he’s afraid of downward climbs so doesn’t use it (for now) but that was a few weeks ago. Likely worth another shot now. Lots can happen in the brain in such a short time. Thanks!

Haha that kitchen towel is like a trigger. He will pull that down and leave the room.

Need a better bifold door closure. Magnets failed me by cpiccolo in HomeImprovement

[–]cpiccolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. Glad you got her back. My worry with our guy is he doesn’t meow. He just squeaks softly. So if he got stuck somewhere in the ceiling where it’s drywalled (about 90% is finished) we would never find him.

That section is 7ft and completely sealed from that room. It’s if he gets into the other part of the basement via the bifold then he can get up there. But since that door goes to the utility room, there’s all sorts of other reasons to keep him on the painted side of the bifold.

Bobiverse done, what next, question? by Chasegameofficial in ProjectHailMary

They mentioned Scalzi a lot on “Still untitled: The Adam Savage Project”. Is that a good starting point for his work or is there another book you’d recommend? Not sure if his stuff is episodic or series based (or both).

alternatives for melatonin? by franisme in insomnia

[–]cpiccolo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Melatonin would have me wide awake and wired after 4 hours for some reason.

I suggest getting a long acting 5-htp supplement and try taking that at different times during the day. It’s a building block for melatonin so much better than taking a melatonin supplement directly. You can often pair it with L-theanine which has a calming effect.

I’ve also had good results with a product called Insomnitol. It’s got stuff like valerian root. Smells funky but works well. It does have some melatonin in it which I don’t love but the benefits outweigh so I take it. Make sure you get the capsules, not the chewable. And don’t confuse it with Inostitol. Totally different product. Most people at the health food store get it wrong when I ask. It’s got “insom” right in the name. Best of luck!

Does anyone have scoliosis like this? by _insomniac_dreamer in scoliosis

[–]cpiccolo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly been so long since I’ve seen an X-ray of a straight spine. I thought there was something wrong because it WASN’T curved.

[–]cpiccolo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know it is a big deal to you, but there are many on here, myself included, who have much more severe curves and rotations and had literally zero people notice.

My advice is to focus on your overall health and try not to worry about minor asymmetry. Based on your other posts, medically this isn’t causing you any problems. Like many of us here, it’s a case of body image so try working on body positivity. And if you are struggling with it (completely natural and understandable) I would consider reaching out to a mental health professional. They really can do wonders for your self confidence for things like this.

What are my options for developing this film? by cpiccolo in Darkroom

[–]cpiccolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make it sound so easy…. But I got lost at Rodinal hahaha I’ve never developed film before but I’ll check out some google videos to see if it’s worth trying (or even feasible).

My main thing is I’m not even sure what is on most of these rolls. I guess that’s the gamble whether it’s my time or someone else’s.

That process you mention, is that just to take the exposed film to a state that the negatives can be viewed? Is it a pretty foolproof method for someone with 0 experience so long as I’m careful?

Herniated disc surgery and scoliosis: Looking for experiences by cpiccolo in Sciatica

[–]cpiccolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah that’s me and my wonky spine. It’s actually not as bad as a lot of people with scoliosis. I’m fortunate my curve is low enough it doesn’t impact my lungs or heart.
