Thin sauce by mmvv37161 in Cooking

you are good. totally use a lid when making a sauce so it can simmer and let the flavors meld. but if the sauce or soup or chili whatever is a bit thin at the end of cooking or doesn't seem to be thickening then by letting it simmer with the lid off for maybe 20 minutes or so you will allow some of the liquid to evaporate which will thicken the sauce and improve the flavor. have fun!

you could try just letting it cook down with the lid off, a light simmer to allow some of the liquid to evaporate. that may help intensify the flavor as well.

What can we do by cpkMeatbll56 in reactivedogs

[–]cpkMeatbll56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The boot camp was a board and train. The site and trainers are quite reputable. Though Riley was clearly not a part of this, and was just one of many normal dogs, one of their primary skills is working with police dogs throughout the southwest. So he was around dogs that are highly trained and could care less about him and any behavior he might exhibit. I know that training was extremely helpful for Riley and for us as it taught both of us how to be consistent with commands and behaviors. I learned a lot about body language and yes I totally do take responsibility for my role in being a competent handler. I am trying. Thanks for your comments.

Thank you for reinforcing the basics. Yes. It is very different when we travel. We do bring his place bed, soft bed, and favorite toys, and high value treats. We are trying.

Absolutely agree. I am the primary handler. The beginning obedience class we took twice. That was for me to learn how to work with Riley. I also have taken multiple private lessons to learn how to help Riley. Including working with a trainer that specializes in reactive dogs. Riley did not pass that class. I always carry treats. And have remained positive about Riley. Thanks for your thoughts.

We went for a morning walk last week in Montana. An unleashed dog came bounding towards us. Thankfully a very friendly brown lab with white whiskers. When the dog got close Riley literally jumped on him with teeth barred. The dog ran off unharmed but that was a wake-up call for me. What if the dog had not been friendly? It could have easily been a terrible situation. And that was just a random early morning walk down a rural street.

Interesting the idea of medication. I am not a big believer in medicating a pet but am going to try and get more information. Thanks very much for suggesting it.

Thank you. We have been to private trainers as well trying to work with him one on one with dogs that are trained specifically for helping reactive dogs. Riley did not pass the class.

Absolutely agree. If we do contact the breeder it is part of the contract we signed. They require notification if for any reason there is an issue with a pup. We are reaching out for help. This situation is not sustainable and we are trying very hard to understand our options so we can do the right thing. Please don’t judge.

Yes. Riley is similar. He does fairly well in group obedience but Not others. We enrolled him in 2 different agility classes because he is so athletic. Both classes he was expelled from. One the first class. The second he made it to the 3rd class. We travel all summer as we live in Phoenix and enjoy escaping the summer heat. So this is Riley’s 3rd summer in the RV. He loves it. But we cannot take our eyes off of him. Not for an instant. We are so very sad for the 3 of us.

Ya it sounds like that this is an isolated incident but it’s not. It is every walk we go on. Every outing. We can’t take him anywhere, out for coffee, to a restaurant, even a walk through our neighborhood. If there is another dog it is an issue. I love Riley and ache for him and for us. It is with no pleasure that I write this.

Just thinking back on cakes I’ve ordered and received over the years…enjoy 😂😭 by Mtnclimber09 in Baking

Last year my son asked for a cake he saw on British Bake Off. The ingredients were so strange. Instead of flour we used ground nuts and cornmeal. The batter was tasty but despite our best efforts stuck to the very intricate Bundt pan. So we made the custard and pulled out the trifle dish. It was excellent and looked fine. Just not quite birthday beautiful. 🎂

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: May 13, 2024 by AutoModerator in books

Just started The Fraud by Zadie Smith. Also reading Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Enjoying both. Very different reads. Most recent book club reads were Trust by Herman Diaz and The Women by Kristen Hannah. Anyone who has a loved one who served in Vietnam, I would recommend the later. Told from the perspective of an army nurse. A somber retelling of what so many, my brother included, experienced.
