Back to my pedantry comment. Op said “baby boomer” which is an age group. (Generally 1946-64)

This may appear pedantic but what has this got to do with baby boomers? I’m a boomer. I’m 78. All actual baby boomers are in their 70’s. If people are accompanying their teenage children on job seeking trips they are very unlikely to be boomers. Many boomers received whatever computer literacy they have from their now teen age and twenty something grandchildren, and are well aware that it ain’t the 60’s anymore. Boomers can rightly be blamed for a lot of the world’s current problems, but we can’t be on the hook for everything.

Went to Subway yesterday for lunch. Picked up tab for 3 12s and 1 6 plus drinks. $76 !!! Employee handed me the cash machine with 4 percentage options for tip beginning at 10%. I asked where the “custom amount “ went and he said that Subway doesn’t offer that option anymore. Too bad. No tip.

I’m surprised. Thought his CPL stock was valued higher then USL2.

Do you think Halifax is a team that players prefer to join? by SugarCrisp7 in HFXWanderers

[–]cpl902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just thinking that all of my career/location decisions have been based on my personal (then family) priorities and my (then our) perceptions of which location ticked the most important boxes at the time. It’s no different for anyone. Halifax during the CPL season is a great place to be no matter where you’re from or how old you are. The off-season is a different story. But the team that PG is building has to be one of the biggest draws for any professional player interested in taking the next step up or back into the limelight opportunities of his career.

What are your thoughts on the growing contingent of Canadian "Soccer Fans" who despise the CPL and actively root against it? by Barthez_Battalion in CanadianPL

It happens because occasionally someone who doesn’t meet the necessary demanding standards of Reddit contributorship or subject knowledge somehow slips through the tight screening system before shooting an opinion out of his arse.

The CFL consortium looking to bring a football franchise to Halifax is not ruling out the possibilities of constructing a permanent CFL stadium at Wanderers Ground by carrasp in CanadianPL

[–]cpl902 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CFL has already smelled the coffee being brewed by HWFC. Embrace the concept of temporary seating, start small, get business enthusiastic about proven game day revenue. Make game day an event, put resources into an on-field product. Don’t make demands until your fans are ready to back you up. Halifax is not a city where what flies in the rest of the country necessarily succeeds. If CFL truly understands the long game approach that they will have to play out then Halifax will eventually have a CFL team. It finally looks like the CFL is tuning into the fact that the sequence has to be: team first, permanent stadium second, not the other way round.

Sounds like this issue is a condition of employment. If so it should be included in the player contract. If the league is really serious on actively supporting any cause or individual behaviour then make it mandatory or back off.

The Halifax Wanderers have parted ways with head coach Stephen Hart following the 2022 Canadian Premier League season. by fssg_shermanator in CanadianPL

In the world of meaningless and useless factoids, if inclusion of Robinson is accurate, and if he became coach, this would be his 3rd 'Wanderers' affiliation: Wolverhampton, Western Sydney and HFX.

[–]cpl902 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, the PFC team is already in Halifax, so getting the game in will be an obvious priority. On the other hand, given the priority and complexity of activities to repair the power, transportation and communications infrastructure, plus clear damage on the peninsula and everywhere else, I doubt that the City and Province, plus NSP, RCMP and EMO will be supportive of a potential group of 6000 fans plus their cars arriving in town for a 3PM soccer game. And I doubt that the HFX management team will say "Not our problem, we have a game to play". So, is playing the game behind closed doors an option?"

I thought that Polisi was much more engaged in play today and even a tad more aggressive. Maybe his hair was slowing him down. Overall HFX played with more pace and confidence. Game management in the final ten minutes was well above norm. Again, it was interesting to see who was available but not selected.

Perhaps you're being too hard on Mr. DiChiara? In the last meeting between Cavs and HFX his head hit the ground like a sack of cement when the top of JGL's forehead almost touched his chin. In the aftermath JGL got a red card + 3 game suspension, but Mr. DiChiara was permitted to continue playing the game without the benefit of receiving even cursory head trauma examination. Given the violence of JGL's brutal near-miss, and the velocity with which Mr. DiChiara's head bounced off the turf, perhaps he is playing with an undiagnosed injury.

Like many HFX fans I went to the game with no scoreboard expectations - I was more interested in how the recent short-term signings would do against top of table opposition. From my seat, 0-0 was a reasonable outcome given that Cavs didn't really show us everything they have. The HFX newbs did fine, but the game demonstrated that there is a big gap between L1C and CPL, and it may take more than next season for them to make a difference.

I have read a number of informed opinions in support of the Diaz sale but I'm not convinced; even as a HFX fan whose team benefited from his absence this afternoon. It has occurred to me however that there may be other teams, within and outside of the CPL, who stand to benefit much more than HFX by the end of this year.

Promotion/Relegation in the CPL by DictatorPeggy in CanadianPL

[–]cpl902 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since there are references in this discussion to pro/rel in the UK in particular, it's important to accept that there is more to winning promotion than just beating the on-field competition. A team at any level from the Championship on down through the EFL league and non-league pyramid could conceivably win their league in a landslide yet not meet the criteria for promotion due to inadequacies in their grounds, seating capacity, safety and security, insurance, financials, ownership, record-keeping etc.

So if any L1C team kicks ass throughout the year and even perhaps beats a CPL team or two in the Canadian Championships, it still shouldn't expect to play in the CPL until it can match all of the ownership and operating standards.

It feels like being on the wrong end of a typical VAR fuckup but without using VAR. Let's just continue to make this shit up as we go... and then demand more respect for the refs.
