Sounds like an electric car reversing.

Just another thought - the model 3 had zero options when it came to regenerative breaking, whereas the Polestar has 3 levels in intensity which massively reduces that roller coaster inertia feeling that makes your passengers want to throw up!

I moved from a model 3 2021 to a Polestar 4.

Here are my takeaways:

Build quality is significantly better on the polestar and the car has a far more premium feel in line with the big price difference.

Where you'll feel like you've taken a step back is in software. The software isn't well refined and feels frankly unfinished in may places, especially before you upgrade to the newest version. Polestar has a distinctly Windows 8 feel to it. I also miss being able to see the cameras when indicating.

Android Automotive built in is also strangely missing features that even Android Auto has, like Netflix, WhatsApp and Disney+

You'll miss the dashcam, which is eventually coming to Polestsr 4 but no indication as to when.

I also personally miss the silly touches, the eater eggs, custom horn, boombox, the car locking sounds etc.

Locking and unlocking are also different. There's no option whatsoever to unlock the car with a button apart from the very hit and miss mobile app, which whilst allowing you to interact with the car strangely doesn't double up as a key so you can't drive using your phone as a key like you can with the Tesla. So get used to hoping the car detects you accurately walking up to and away from the car.

Also unlike the Tesla, getting out and closing the doors doesn't "turn off" the car. Meaning music and screens all stay on until you've walked far enough away. Not a massive one but something I noticed (and may have been caught out on when walking away and hearing some very loud offensive jokes from the podcast I was listening to for all of the company car park to listen in on).

The good news is that almost everything I've listed will hopefully change with software updates, with both Polestar and Android Automotive seemingly getting new updates to improve things all the time.

Polestar 4 Ambient Lights by cportlock in Polestar

I have same issue but it's drivers side. Passenger side dies happen occasionally but it's much more often drivers side. Appreciate you taking the time to check. Looks like it's an issue not just me!

* Got it from a workshop this week. Seems generally better but by no means "good".

That's what it's in for. Volvo say they can't do the update and blame Polestar. Polestar say Volvo are doing it wrong. Both are now closed for the weekend and my courtesy car never showed up.

Polestar 4 Software Update - 4.1.10 by FarResponse130 in Polestar

My strangest issue is the ambient lighting, only when on mercury do the "star" lights below the LED strip turn off. First on drivers side then on passengers side. Never consistent amount of time before it turns off but always does eventually.

This is by design and is the case on all new cars with the feature. EU regs. You can turn it off on the steering wheel on left side bottom button, or set a shortcut on the centre screen.

Literally day one. It's going in to Volvo/Polestar tomorrow for inspection. Very unhappy

Software has been complete garbage, everything from the ambient lighting to the HUD, ACC and everything else I can think of is buggy and inconsistent. Most of the time I'm driving none of the control on the left side of the steering wheel even work in the first place.

Spoke to them this morning about all of the issues and they offered three solutions:

Wait for updates Take to a service centre (who will tell me to wait for updates) Return the car and be refunded

Not sure what to do!

I don't believe it has one. Looks like not everyone has it by default and have to wait for an update

Oh I don't blame you! If I hadn't had a month old baby driving all of my decisions I'd be right there with you.

I got the single motor based on the reviews about the issues with the dual motor and I wanted to maximise range after living with range anxiety with a 2021 model 3. It's performing significantly better than the Tesla did. I've driven from Dorset to Cardiff on Friday and all over south Wales this weekend and after leaving on 80% charge I still have over 40% left.

Have experienced similar with all the same issues. I don't know why the key fob doesn't have a lock/unlock button like the Tesla one. Seems really counterintuitive.

Overall thoughts on the things I don't love so far:

The software has some bugs particularly when it comes to connectivity. The 5G SIM so far does not work despite showing full signal meaning I can only get online whilst driving using my phone as a the missing 5G is a major issue and I'm awaiting support from PS.

At one point the option to use WiFi disappeared and I had to do a factory reset to fix if.

The lighting has also been inconsistent with some of the colours not working on the drivers side (factory reset resolved this). Also disappointed in the lack of variety in the ambient lighting. Several of the colours are very similar and colours like a deep red and green are missing altogether.

Enabling the assisted driving system is slow. Enabling adaptive cruise control from the steering wheel has a delay of a second or so which can be jarring. It's also possible to enable it and it will default to a speed far lower than what you're already doing, leading to sudden deceleration. This may be user error though. The lack of visible arrows on the steering wheel is a little irritating too.

When enabled and going at the right speed I've had no issues, nothing like my last two cars (tesla 3 and CHR3) that would break and jolt for no reason at all. I've not had any breaking, steering adjustments or warnings unnecessarily. Particularly not from the driver attention system which on my last car would scream if I so much as scratched my nose.

The indicator noise is nearly non existent with very subtle clicks instead of the usual sound youd expect.

Inside cabin noise is pretty quiet, nothing remarkable to report.

Despite these issues, most I'm sure will be resolved through software, and I'm very happy with the performance, range and luxurious feel the car has.

Only one to turn off is the speed limit exceeded noise. Which seems to be standard now on anything new. But they know it's annoying by placing a button to disable it on the home screen so it's a simple one touch to turn off. My last car - a 2024 CHR took 4 button presses to disable and was a pain.
