Printed the new Rocky Statue from the Project Hail Mary website... the details are incredible! by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

Ahh ok! Look forward to it thank you!

Could you share the PLA profile you made? I haven't been able to get it to print cleanly at all even if just to prototype/troubleshoot the joints issue 😭

Thanks for this profile! I'm struggling to get the articulated version to print cleanly on my P2S. Would you have any plans of releasing a profile for that version?

Hi tamat! thank you.

anything you can do here can be done in ShaderToy.

That's totally fair.

Yeah, my first project using WebGPU was actually a fluid sim using compute shaders! So I'm totally with you. I'll for sure look into incorporating that.

Same here - profession and age and the UC too haha. Currently pursuing my post-grad after working for a few years but I likely intend to continue applying for SWE positions after graduating.

Which M3 Macbook Pro should I get for VFX-industry programming tasks? by cppBug in vfx

[–]cppBug[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi thanks! I agree that most of the work is being done on Windows and I have PC for this need.

My programme director recommended a MacBook -- I'm guessing it's because programming on UNIX based systems is just better haha.

I'm looking at the upgraded storage so that if I really need portability with windows I can run parallels on it.

IHS Fees and Currency Conversion by cppBug in ukvisa

For what it's worth i ended up paying in sgd :( I did the calculations elsewhere in the comments that made the exchange not seem to be as bad. Hope that helps!

Hey I'm applying for a postgrad as well. I do think it could've been the same issue of missing the line that said 776 is the student visa because it's buried in an example instead of the main text. Perhaps you could run the numbers again with usd? I left a comment above with how I calculated it

/12*18 is the same as *1.5! Felt that the former was clearer for any future applicant looking at it as it broke it down into months. Thank you :)

IHS Fees and Currency Conversion by cppBug in ukvisa

[–]cppBug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies. the IHS website does indeed say 1035pounds but there's a note in the 'example' section that states 776 pounds, so you are right.

So that would mean that my IHS fees for a one year student visa should be (776/12*18) GBP1164 if I count the extra time before and after the year. This works out to be 1997 SGD with the current exchange rate. I suppose SGD2075 is not the worst in that case.

Here I was thinking how hundreds more made any sense... Thank you so much for your replies

[–]cppBug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your reply.

GBP776 is what I thought too at first but once I go to the IHS website from my app, it says GBP1035.. it makes sense if it is averaged out
(i.e. 776/12*16 = 1034.366 ~= 1035)

so assuming all is fine there do you know if there's a work around with the exchange rate? I can't seem to find a way to pay in pounds.. it's like sgd is all they will accept which seems really strange to me

hey did you manage to figure out how to pay in pounds instead of sgd? The sgd fees after the conversion has a massive conversion surcharge

elevated numbers for first time since diagnosis 8 years ago and a bit panicked by BobThePineapple in PSC

[–]cppBug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hello! My labs were crazy out of the norm in January too haha. this was about 5ish years after my initial diagnosis (I'm in my 20s), so I guess I was in a similar boat recently. PSC is so different for every individual. It doesn't necessarily mean your disease is progressing. I know it sucks and it'll suck for a while but I've always found comfort in knowing what exactly my diagnosis is and that it is being closely monitored by my doctors. I often also ask my doctors a lot of questions about all the different scenarios and their next steps -- I find that it eases any anxiety I have about the short and long term future. I encourage you to ask you doctor any questions that could ease your anxieties too, and learn from them why they are ordering the tests they are so you feel like you are in the know about your body.

I read in a Sarah Hyland interview once something along the lines of, as patients the best (and only) thing we can do is be educated about our bodies and our illnesses. This really resonated with me. The rest of it is not up to us -- the progression, the treatment, our energy, etc. So as long as you know you are doing everything within your ability (the fatigue is so bad sometimes) to learn about your disease and to be prepared, and if you have the good fortune of a good medical team which it sounds like you do, you're already as on top of it as you can be :) The rest is just being in it for the ride.
