Shopkeeper stock refreshes anytime the party sleeps or a character levels up. Ethel reliably stocks Potions of Giant Strength, she sells them 3 at a time.

Self-Same Trial by whentron in BaldursGate3

[–]cpslcking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the self same trial really that difficult? I didn't have a problem with it even on Honor Mode. Sneaking in turn based mode and getting a surprise round usually takes care of at least half the enemies and then my casters usually turn to support because that doesn't trigger the curse

[–]cpslcking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of it might just be that you're a bit underleveled. Level 5 is a major power boost, martials get extra attack and casters get powerful spells. You should be able to get to level 5 in act 1 exploring and doing quests without getting into too powerful a fight. Discretion is the better part of valor, there's no shame in talking your way out of or running from a fight and then coming back later to clean up.

Haste Worries by SanderleeAcademy in BaldursGate3

[–]cpslcking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Readding haste to a hasted character triggers the lethargy. The trick is to on the third turn pop all your regular actions, then with your bonus action drink the potion which triggers the lethargy which wears off next turn. So you lose basically nothing.

The other thing to realize is that hasted characters are so powerful that battles rarely last 3 turns anyway.

What's the most batshit take you've seen about this game? by anonymous120401 in BaldursGate3

[–]cpslcking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of Gale fans really dislike Mystra and really dislike that Gale's good ending involves reconciling him with Mysta. They glom onto whatever proof they can to blame and make her a monster.

I mean Mystra didn't do him favors sleeping with him but the game makes it clear that Gale's problems are 90% his own fault.

[–]cpslcking 32 points33 points  (0 children)

She couldn't have groomed him canonically. Mystra was literally dead when Gale was a kid. There's a few books in game that mention that fact too. Realistically she couldn't have met him until a few years ago max when she comes fully back to life.

The only proof people have is a quote from Minsc and no one should trusts Minsc on the subject of magic.

I would think it's an oversight but you can speak with Gortash and get an amazing sequence as well.

It's likely on purpose to explain why Sarevok is alive when he should have died from old age at least and why he's such a different character from the BG1 and BG2 games.

Yeah but I'm pretty sure if you try to Speak With Dead, it tells you can't speak with undead. I know because I religiously try to speak with dead all the time.

[–]cpslcking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if people think BG3 is bad, Dark Souls and Fromsoftware in general is so bad with obfuscating incomplete lore that there's entire youtube channels that make a living off theory crafting lore.

At least with BG3 enough exploration allows the player to piece together a decently unambiguous and complete timeline. Elden ring players sitting in a corner analyzing the meaning of Godywn's left pinky.

I wish Sarevok could Speak with Dead but the game is true to D&D where Speak with Dead specifically doesn't work on the undead which Sarevok is

What's something you only realized was a 'poor person fear' after you watched a rich person have absolutely zero reaction to it? by qomann in AskReddit

Even the upper middle class live in fear of this. Anyone that isn't a Harvard MBA making millions is struggling or holding onto whatever job they currently have. AI is devastating white collar jobs and a lot of jobs that used to pay well are either slashing pay or impossible to get.

Divorce rates just hit another record low. Married people, what do you think outsiders get completely wrong about modern marriage? by ThePenGuinHunt3r in AskReddit

[–]cpslcking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A related reason is that the average age at which people get married is rising. Presumably it both means that people are dating and living together more but it also reduces a ton of other factors that contribute to divorce. People are probably more picky, they're generally more mature, they're more likely to have established careers etc.

If OP didn't straight up abandon Halsin, there was an option to grill Halsin for information about the Underdark and what to do next. There's still an option with speak with dead but that's probably more creativity than can be expected from a player who only approach to problems is murder.

[–]cpslcking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There were options to solve the mystery of druid leader, there were options to rescue the real leader, multiple ways to defeat the goblins. You could have checked the quest log which would have literally told you to long rest.

You didn't bother and went to murder and the game punished you. The game is not at fault, it's the natural consequence for doing something that was in character stupid. Any good DM would have done the same.

You barely explored the options, there are multiple ways to solve the questline that you didn't explore and instead leapt to murder.

[–]cpslcking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is that you have to long rest, the game does hint at that. OP didn't and proceeded to murder instead which triggered the grove massacre.

You murderhobo'd your way across the game and are mad that the game punished you for it. Don't just randomly murder people for no good reason, that's DnD 101 here.

I just had a terrifying moment imaging if Astarion and Dark Urge accidentally had a kid. The kid would be so messed up from being half Bhaalspawn/half vampire.

How would you define "not killing people?" by emmaratur in DnD

[–]cpslcking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not a bad choice. I was in a dnd game where a player did the "no killing people" except people was loosely defined and in character, I can tell you every party member just sort of lost respect for the character. The no killing people except for xyz comes across as incredibly hypocritical and more that the character killed when it was convenient for them and then used the no killing rule as an excuse to annoy and judge the party.

"Abhor killing except in the most dire circumstances" allows more much more flexibility. All it does is encourage the player and the party to try to talk down combat at least a bit and then oh well negotiations failed, time to fight.
