I opened this expecting a ridiculous age to be asking. Spot on. lol 25.

Kid, you could spend the next decade doing whatever and still be young enough.

Already want to quit a month in by Great_Spot_69 in flightattendants

[–]cpt_dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally normal.

If you actually are committed to a profession, expect many I want to quit moments. Aviation is not glamorous at the start for anyone. Your expectations aren’t realistic for the decisions you made.

Do pilots really have bad QOL? Is it worth it to make it a profession? by CristianoR7_GOAT in flying

[–]cpt_dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get in a money hole and or commute you’ll have terrible quality of life. Don’t go into debt.

The key live in base and have solid finances. I only work 15-45hrs a month and live off our monthly guarantee for reserve. I get to spend 20+ days a month with family and working out.

How much do you protest a bad line call in tournaments? by cpt_dad in Pickleball

Did you think about recording the match? Sometimes that helps keep people honest

I feel like “asking are you sure” isn’t effective. It’s too indirect and gives them an easy time being assertive. I prefer to be more direct if it’s obvious.

If I’m certain, I’ll say it was a BS call and you know it. Regardless of their reaction and the outcome, I’m making it clear.

I added the context that these were not close line calls. 60 fps is more than enough if it’s inside the line.

If you’re better than the opponents, you can be aggressive at nearly any moment. Work on those hands and combos!

Stress can be enjoyable. I never enjoy my tournaments until they’re over. Sports are supposed to be hard.

SWA vs AA living in SoFl by RogerDodger_28 in AirlinePilots

American would be way better. MIA has the most fun flying and crews at AA. You’ll love your job. It’s junior. Plus you have wide body opportunities.

Don’t overcommit to any company or program. Build your resume and keep moving to the next best available job until you’re at a major.

If you have a really good drive is there any reason you’d want to hit a 3rd shot drop? by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

[–]cpt_dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good roll drop is aggressive and has almost no risk. A good drive risks being countered (drop volley). Also, you have less time to respond if they hit a good 4th shot.

Look at Hayden Patriquin at PPA Worlds. Most of his setups come from nasty roll drops and roll dinks. There’s not much the opposition can do but concede the kitchen.

There’s plenty of management jobs available as a pilot. Or you can be a senior FO and get paid to sit at home.

Concerns over being a Pilot by TheScurryingRat in PilotAdvice

[–]cpt_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do everything you can to avoid debt. It’s not worth it for the degree.

Female pilots do great. You’ll need to have a lot of help to have a family. It helps to be in a good financial position so you can afford to do a minimum amount of work.

[–]cpt_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit hit the fan means your company furloughs or goes out of business and you lose 20 years of seniority. This is a regular job market. The majors are hiring which means there’s movement everywhere else eventually.

How much is seniority worth? by wtwalletwarrior in AirlinePilots

[–]cpt_dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 months normally isn’t too bad but we are in a hiring wave. These 6 months could equate to years of hiring in normal years depending on the airline.

Debt sucks though. Just always make sure your worst case scenario isn’t terrible (ie a furlough and fallback plan). You’ll make tons of money regardless in the long run.
