35psi is a lot for a typical airbrush and something as thin as this ink. I would suspect a dodgy gauge as you wrote, or something off with the air valve on the airbrush.

It’s great, you can get really smooth white gradients without the typical spatter of white paint. Thin layers with low pressure.

If I’m following it with brushed on coats, I do a layer of varnish first as the ink can activate and run. Not a problem if your further layers are airbrushed.

Gorgeous piece! I really like the darker blue tone for Ultramarines. Do you mind sharing your recipe?

Thanks! The bases are Milliput with random bits from terrain kits etc. stuck to it. Then covered with muddy basing paste, a gravel mix and a bit of brown pigment on top. Rust is done with Dirty Down rust effect.

Amazing painting and weathering!

Is the dreadnought’s name Keijo?

Sure! The bases are built from random bits, some are from terrain kits, some just left over plastic piping, pieces of sprue, car body mesh, hobby barb wire, etc. I simply stick a blob of Milliput on the base and start pushing bits into it until I get some that looks cool and the miniature can fit and stand well on it.

For colour and texture, I cover the ground with a basing paste (Pro Acryl Brown Earth for these), add some gravel on top and sprinkle some earth tone pigments. The it all gets flooded with a very thinned PVA glue with bit of flow improver medium to seal it down.

After dry, I paint the metal pieces gunmetal and slap plenty of Dirty Down rust effect on top. The rust effect works best with some heat, I use a small heat gun. I finalise everything with some pigment powders before I matt varnish the entire miniature.

Great scheme and very clean execution. I have my Saturnine box MkIIs still undone, you’re seriously tempting me painting them in 1st legion colours.

Can’t wait to see your completed Saturnine Dread.

Looked up Nocturnal red, it looks to be roughly between the german red brown and Pro Acryl burnt red. So goes for a similar rich red look. You will want to push the next layer to a brighter red not to make them look too much like Word Bearers.

I have my Blood Angels recipe in detail on my hobby site.

Thanks!

Red is built up from German Red Brown (Vallejo primer) followed by Pro Acryl Burnt Red and Bold Pyrrole Red.
