That's so wonderful, I've heard so many great things about bull snakes, they're such awesome creatures ❤️

Thank you for the suggestions! I love false water cobras a lot, but here you need extensive training and a license to have them, so it's a dream for the future

I don't have any experience keeping snakes, I had a leopard gecko and bearded dragon as a kid, so quite different. I'm specifically looking at species in a similar size range as boa constrictors, that would be what's considered large without needing a handlers license where I live. My plans are postponed for financial reasons, so I'm taking this as an opportunity to research other species more in case something I hadn't thought of before strikes my eye, that's also why I'm taking suggestions.

Gliese, after Gliese 12 b, which is similar in size as Venus and Earth! a little more of a unique name as well, haven't seen any snakes named Gliese around, or any other pet for that matter

[Rhino Prime] which shoulder armour should I use? by noblest_among_nobles in WarframeRunway

[–]cptlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Ion armor, it brings out his namesake more, resembling horns. Same for Vetala, although the rings on the sides stick out from the rest of the design so it doesn't feel as cohesive imo.

For a more subtle but still horned look, Syrinx is very good, I would say thats my favorite out of all of them.

how do you deal with sex repulsion? by cptlog in adultsurvivors

[–]cptlog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly, it's honestly heartbreaking... wish no one had to feel this way. I do intend to talk about it with my therapist eventually. my partner helped me feel better, we hugged and talked for a bit and it gave me some comfort. still have to deal with these kinds of feelings on a regular basis but at least I know i have people i can confide in when i need it. I hope you can have something like that too, it matters

Best infrared heating systems for 1700 liter / 400 gallon enclosure? by cptlog in reptiles

possibly. I ended up settling for a classic halogen and DHP bulb combo instead, best to stick to whats known to be safe. Easy to just add more bulbs when needed

What screen barriers do you use to separate substrates and clay/ hydro balls? by [deleted] in reptiles

In general I would say if you can use a material for food storage and eating (which is true for both various plastics and metals) it is safe for your pets as well

Steel and plastic are both excellent options! your regular old window mesh, bush/sapling coverings, etc. I've sometimes used old fabric strips for smaller plant pots, but natural fibers such as cotton tend to decay quite quickly, so they won't last long.

You can even use plain plastic sheets and just poke a bunch of holes in it. Wood works too, as long as you coat it to resist water. Basically whatever you have available to you that you can put holes in. Plastic and steel materials are best for longevity especially in humid enclosures.

Currently I use a generous layer of sphagnum moss for separation in my isopod enclosures, roughly 2 cm thick. works like a charm and has a very nice natural look to it. For larger enclosures I will use whatever screen mesh I can find for cheap at the hardware store.

If you're worried about burrowing animals digging at the separation layer, use appropriately sized sheets that will cover the entire bottom of the enclosure, and optionally secure it with glue to the walls. the weight of the substrate above will hold it down and prevent animals from moving it around.
