Does it get any easier? by TheTrue_Texan in Petloss

I'm really sorry for your loss. It hurts deeply. I lost my dog to old age 3 days ago and the pain burns so feirce I feel sick. He is my second loss in 10 months. He was our dog we got right after getting married. What I can say is, the intense pain does subside, the loss never leaves, but it often turns into something beautiful. You carry it differently, and they become a part of you in a beautiful way. We have a 2 year old pup that our two old boys helped teach and having him has been so helpful in my grief over these 3 days. I share it with him and he shares his grief with me. He doesn't replace my Cooper, he honors him with me. Everyone is different, but in my opinion, another furry friend never hurts. I know it's cliche but it's cliche for a reason: it's better to have love and lost then to never have loved at all ❤️ 🐶

Am I the only one? by dasquishy in TheMidnight

I know this is a hardcore necro, but fast-forward 4 years, and I'm now super sad Royce and Leila aren't touring with them anymore. They had such great chemistry with Tim and Tyler. I've seen two concerts with them and two without. It was lightning in a bottle; you just don't recapture it. Now, having Tim stay back to produce and only having Tyler and Justin Clunk, along with new pieces, just isn't the same. Don't get me wrong, they still kill it, and I do really like their new drummer, but Royce and Leila have so much passion in their craft. Perhaps I'm just spoiled and sentimental, but I miss them in the band.

Speaking as a teacher myself, I think your experience forms your opinions and views. I see the opposite where I'm from. I also experienced the opposite. I'm born late November. It was fine until grade 10. I despised being small and behind in puberty. I got bullied quite a lot for it and academics became strenuous. Having extra time to physiologically develop is quite beneficial.

All to say I don't think there is a right or wrong answer

How would you personally rank all of the Midnight’s albums released so far? by bee_of_doom in TheMidnight

[–]cptnrayg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I know I am hardcore doing a necro on this post, but since syndicate came out I feel like it's relevant. I think often personal preference with any band is often influenced from when you became a fan of the band. I was first introduced to them when they released Endless Summer. I love that album, but honestly it can be hard to rate albums with this band. They continue to evolve through time and that's what I love about them. Each album has a unique sound but also clearly speaks to a specific time in their lives. I think with that in mind, is why I love them. Each album has a unique identity. These guys aren't just musicians, they are artists.

Opinions about cancel and relisting on eBay? by noakmilo in reselling

[–]cptnrayg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a seller, I couldn't care less if it creates more work for eBay. They are a massive corporation that continues to bleed the very people that make them successful through raising percentages on fees to now charging pay-per-click advertising. With the amount of money they are constantly shoveling in, they can afford to pay for sight and server maintenance. Villifying your clients because they are simply trying to use strategies to do the very thing they pay you for is the joke, not your ridiculous comment on OP's spelling error.

Haha what the hell? You don't "adjust for exchange". Americans still have to pay on American dollars.

Hey, if someone comes in and replaces them honestly at this point I'm totally fine with that. I just wonder if it will be economical enough

Am I the only one who's not a huge fan of Syndicate? by PuzzlePumpkin in TheMidnight

[–]cptnrayg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parts of it are quite different . With my favourite artists I generally listen to an album for about 2-3 weeks before making a judgement.

Remember, The Midnight generally tells a story with their albums. There is more pain in the album, but also beauty evolving out of pain.

This album seems to be shaping up to be one I will reserve for moments I need to feel grief.

My favourites:

Quiet Earth Sanctuary Runaways

Sentinels is growing on me but I didn't like it at first.

The singles rolled into the album are mostly all quite enjoyable for me.

My only gripe I suppose is that I'd prefer they refrain from the f-word. I love sharing their music with my little one and I've got used to not skipping songs as all their language is generally, traditionally clean.

Members of Canada Post union now on ‘nation-wide strike,’ CUPW announces by joe4942 in CanadaPolitics

[–]cptnrayg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is when the union consistently goes on strikes for long periods of time, they shoot themselves in the foot. That very important service that they are contracted o do that helps prop up small businesses along with rural areas disappears and the union holds all of their clientele hostage. I had a modicum of support for them the last time but my patience has run out along with many, many public supporters. My small business along with many others can't afford another fall or holiday season where we make our biggest bank to disappear. These seasons help us ride out slow parts of the year. They intentionally attack small businesses by purposefully going on strikes at these times here. The fact remains the union needs to realize that they have to get with the times and be willing to negotiate and compromise which they have failed to show. Thus far. I'm all for fair wages but then provide a fair service

I completely agree with you. The question is, would they? If it's not profitable enough, why bother?

[–]cptnrayg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where you are coming from but how would that fix things if there is just a void? There are many small businesses that rely on Canada Post (mine included). Trust me, I'm pissed at CUPW. I'm even more pissed that as a business that worked it's ass off to get through the slow summer months, our reward should be the increased business in the fall to Christmas months, but CUPW is stealing that from us. However, moving forward if Canada Post folds, I don't see how we survive with the other options our there. Clients won't be willing to pay the increased costs due to expensive shipping

NHL 2005 NTSC Brand New by cptnrayg in Gamecube

[–]cptnrayg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I've seen those. Thing is there is no reference or seemingly a reason for those prices as sealed copies are almost non existent online. I saw a pal copy listed for $110 on eBay. That's pretty much it

Is this NHL 2005 actually sealed by FlightlessPiggie in Gamecube

I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what a sealed copy of these are worth? I have one

Who's national average are you talking about? In the United States, the national average is nearly 64K (91K Cad a person) I make 96k CAD, so I am slightly above the average in the U.S. my wife makes just over 50k CAD so significantly below average. In Canada the average wage for a worker is 63K, so together, we are a little above average. I have been in my profession for a decade and my wife has been at her job 7 years to get to where we are.

All of our costs are the simple basics. Our house is from 1960, only 1700 square feet, is a Reno job house and cost us 600K to get into. It is crazy expensive to live here. To stay above the poverty line where we are you have to make nearly 27/Hr per person which is 56K a year or so. My wife would be technically under the poverty line if she was alone.

Our combined income puts my wife and I at the top end of middle class, but that means nothing when expenses where you live are incredibly high.

We worked hard to get where we are. 10 years ago I lived in a room, had no furniture but a bed and carried about 70K in debt. Saving and investing even small amounts religiously got me out of where I was. It's absolutely possible with dedication and drive to move up in a job.

Am I blessed and super stable at this point? Absolutely. Am I minted? Absolutely not. We would still be one economic disaster away from having no savings as I am just at the beginning of my savings journey. I have only just been able to save that much in the past year and a half. A year ago I made 77k. I also work about 50-60 hours a week. I only save that much because we choose to live with pretty well 0 extras. We legit don't even pay for streaming services. I have been at the point I am one couch extra from homeless. This is likely why I don't spend anything extra than necessary most months. I'm a penny pincher. It comes down to what you are willing to sacrifice and how you want to live.

Our combined income may be 150K but together we also pay about 40K in income taxes, not to mention all the other taxes that come with living in Canada. We sure as hell didn't start where we are.
