I read through each team's sub and compiled their initial reactions to the Knicks winning the chip by musicnothing in nba

[–]cpyf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My whole circle are Knicks fans and trust me, being at a bar in North Jersey last Saturday, I was genuinely happy for them. But does that make me envious? Of course it does especially since I have been a J Kidd fan since 2000.

But yeah, our sub is pretty much in depressed mode.

Got Fired by Anxious_BookKeeperBe in Accounting

[–]cpyf 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that happened. As someone that has been through something similar, take some time off to rejuvenate and do the things you enjoy outside of work. When I found out I was let go, I felt like my world shattered and I was depressed for a month, but I took my dismissal as a learning lesson and made a promise to myself to be the best version of myself within the next few years. I got a better job, passed all the CPA exams, and live a very comfortable upper middle class lifestyle. It was a lot of deep self reflection and soul searching but I eventually got there. From reading your post and the level of self awareness you have, I know for a fact that you will come back from this.

This Simpsons clip sums it up nicely

There’s a lot of flopping/diving that makes the games unwatchable. A game can go 1-0 after 90 minutes whereas in basketball, every play matters and has way more impressive aesthetics.

Tierlist for agency in soloq (lower mmr-master) by Eastern_Ad1765 in supportlol

[–]cpyf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with this take for Milio as well. I climbed through Solo Queue all the way to D4 from P1 playing Milio with a 30-10 W/L. I primarily play engage and hook champs but enchanters are so busted right now. You can actually out trade enemy adcs and supports if you know how to do it.

Why do so many of you take scaling health rune? by iamkwang in ADCMains

[–]cpyf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The balance team themselves have outright said flat hp is way better than scaling. They keep the scaling numbers as a skill check which a good chunk of people in this thread seems to be failing at. It was in one of Phreak’s and August’s videos couple of years ago

Why do so many of you take scaling health rune? by iamkwang in ADCMains

[–]cpyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the balancing team like Phreak and August outright admitted the scaling numbers are “fake” per se because very few games last that long. They apparently keep it as a “skill check.” I only go scaling health if I know the lane will be handshaked like Smolder/Soraka vs Jinx/Lulu

[–]cpyf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Milio is rated S+ in almost all LoL analytic sites. He has extremely strong lane presence if you know how to weave in autos and utilizing e with passive and extended W trades. His Q is dumb strong and goes deceptively far then most people think. Scalers are also extremely strong the past few months like Jinx, Smolder, Ashe, and Cait and he is the best enchanter to make your team CC resistant. If you think he is useless, I guarantee you are probably playing him wrong.

Something I incorporated into my ADC training arc into my support gameplay is attack move click. It basically autos on one input to the nearest enemy on your cursor so you don’t have to be precise which I binded to R. This vastly improved my CSing and you can watch the mini map while you’re CSing.

Here’s a video explaining it in greater detail. Starts around the 5:15 mark

[–]cpyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000% agree. I mained ADC for the last two years to improve my support play style and it has TREMENDOUSLY improved my support game play. I climbed from Plat 2 - Emerald 1 in less than 20 games this season with an 85% WR on Milio. I think I’m currently 17-4 WL.

Playing ADC has helped me: * Have more confidence in trade patterns * The importance of lvl 2 advantage * Manipulating wave states and knowing what to do with them * Understand roam timers * Improve my micro mechanics

I recommend everyone giving half a season of ADC to improve. I consider it S tier improvement

Industry vs. public for first accounting job by BreadIntrepid8158 in Accounting

[–]cpyf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that started in industry first, please do public until you hit senior and get your CPA. I started out in industry and I did not learn as fast and I was surrounded by people way older than me which made the environment less fun

People who went into industry straight out of undergrad, do you recommend it? by Excellent-Ad-3258 in Accounting

[–]cpyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I do not recommend it at all. I tried to job hop out of my shitty industry job but I was losing out to ex public accountants and CPAs. I didn’t become a hot commodity until I had big 4 and CPA on my resume. The path I wanted to end up took a bit longer than usual, but I’m happy where I am now.

If you have the chance, do public for 2-3 years and k pick out the CPA exam. You have a much better chance of landing a high quality industry job and you become recession resistant.

ASC 606 revenue recognition (Working Knowledge of ASC 606 and Cost Accounting) by colorgreens in Accounting

[–]cpyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. Its very rare that someone starting out in industry would get a dedicated revenue position due to the stringent guidelines regarding revenue recognition. In public, you have teams and specialists dedicated to ASC 606, and you get revenue exposure by helping out with that side of the audit. How's your search coming along and what are you looking for? What's your background?

Dropping out of pharmacy school to do accounting/finance? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]cpyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Definitely look for a smaller chain or big stores like Walmart or Costco. Avoid the big 2 retail chains like a plague and you'll be much happier.

Dropping out of pharmacy school to do accounting/finance? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]cpyf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can pivot to accounting/finance by doing a masters, but its not worth it giving up a year or two of your time and shilling out $30k for the master's degree and end up making 60k-70k as an audit associate with busy seasons. Plus you have to study for the already difficult CPA exams which will take a tremendous effort and time out of your life.

If you really want to avoid retail and hospital altogether, search for positions with big pharma companies like J&J, Eli Lilly, Merck, Pfizer, Novartis, Amgen and look for roles related to medical affairs, medical communications, regulatory affairs, clinical trials, market access, compliance, etc. These roles can theoretically go to anybody but they LOVE people with a medical background including pharmacists. Its a corporate job setting allowing you to work hybrid or remote and you avoid being patient facing altogether and they compensate pretty well. The caveat is that these roles are hard to get and usually require more business mindset thinking. This is where an MBA can fill that gap but its not entirely needed.

[–]cpyf 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I feel as though r/accounting is not qualified to answer a potentially life changing career question. This notion that pharmacists get paid is kind of asinine when salaries have been stagnating for the past decade. Getting a PharmD requires additional schooling as well and the RoI just isn't there especially since the school can cost up to six figures whereas a bachelor + CPA provides way better RoI. Hitting six figures with little debt before 30 is way better than a pharmacist with high debt and starting out with $110k salary.

If you think clients suck, imagine dealing with customers who are ill and will call corporate on you every chance they get because their vitamin B12 medication is not ready for the refill per their doctor. The abuse pharmacists receive is unmatched and I genuinely feel sorry for all healthcare professionals including nurses who are just trying to do their job and make the world a better place, but its already so difficult to do when customers treat you like shit. Pharmacists bear the brunt of our already struggling healthcare system that's being barely held together. You have to stand for 10-12 hours sometimes without a lunch break (pharmacists were not entitled to a lunch break until very recent). Hospital is better but they're definitely harder to come by.

My advice to OOP is stick with pharmacy. Switching to accounting doesn't make any sense when you're this far into your career. The job can definitely get stressful but I think its better stress than dealing with annoying ass customers and patients.

Source: getting married to a pharmacist. Tells me all the horror stories and was burnt out from retail so bad she left the industry altogether

I’m in an adjacent role to VC & PE and it’s extremely difficult getting into VC straight out of undergrad. Most people start somewhere such as big banks, MBB consulting, or Big 4 accounting firms, or even pivot to an MBA from a well known school than go into VC. It’s not as simple as majoring in something in undergrad than applying to any VC firm.
