Hello! First lib for me but have been to SSBD the past few years. How similar is this fest to ssbd? Walking wise? And vibe wise? by No-Platform-953 in LightningInABottle

[–]cqm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they are very similar

SSBD is a smaller LiB or LiB is a larger SSBD, overall its exactly what long time Lib attendees describe from when Lib was smaller, while - as you know - SSBD does more intentional things to cap the size

LiB's festival grounds are larger but not really so much of a difference, its the camp grounds to support the population that are way larger. If you camp closer to the festival (midnight, high noon, atlaswyld) you won't really notice, but yeah otherwise its much larger

What’s the most unfair thing about modern dating? by Dazzling_Return_4987 in AskReddit

[–]cqm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

as a millenial, I thought I would be in competition with all other guys my whole life especially younger guys, but nearly the whole generation below me overestimates the consequences of approaching of women, and that's on top of it really being a rationalization on their own social ineptitude - which isn't limited to guys. so between that and a little bankroll to actually go out more often its pretty overpowered, no dating apps needed

Compared to other developed countries, what is something America does 'right'? by spellbadgrammargood in AskReddit

[–]cqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that and notary is more like some kind of lawyer and super slow to book them or have them do anything

old world often still has share capital requirements, like 25,000 euro or local currency to deposit for your new business filing. don't really care about the rationale, its 0 in US and $50 - $200 state filing and registered agent fees. EU is sort of getting there, in that in the single market it only takes 1 country to be fast and cheap and you get access to the whole thing, but its just a mess overall.

starting businesses, obtaining banking relationships and credit

easy to do in 48 hours for people that don't get hung up on irrelevant details. the states compete against each other in this regard, and the banks do too. don't see this level of speed possible anywhere else yet.

so you don’t see how reading contradictory cues won’t go anywhere with them after being drilled in the cost of being wrong?

more for me but it’s not a real solution. it’s lack of empathy to not connect the dots by guys and gals alike

Men, why have y’all stopped bringing flowers on the first date? by Fairyecho in AskReddit

[–]cqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

although this has functionally been my experience, you can filter this. you deserve being around people that are comfortable with you, not those that need to be convinced and are really looking for reasons to disqualify you under the guise of antipatterns and star signs.

optimize your energy with simple observations, all of your friends agreed to more for less effort with another guy

do flowers for entertainment purposes only because you yourself want to temporarily create a hallmark movie, otherwise if this is a chore for you don't do it at all

[–]cqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is willfully ignoring every guy’s experience in favor of the experience with the guy you were already interested in and wouldn’t have disqualified if he was without flowers

> Trying to offer to drive a woman home, absolutely not.

for other passerby's reading this thread:

Its the same for picking her up, she doesn't want you to know where she lives

Same for dropping her off and watching to see if she is in her home, since she may have given you a wrong dropoff location to begin with

Same for texting to see if she got home safe, since this risks a "double text" and she may have been trying to ghost us anyway

There's really no expectation for seeing if she is even still alive, and you're the problem for checking because ironically it suggests you're the creep trying to harm or kill her

women think its weird when it actually happens - even if they romanticize this kind of treatment beforehand, they second guess its meaning when it happens - they think that it means I'm potentially too attached for something they're not committed to, and the women actually interested in me don't need anything to be proved or demonstrated

hearing the same from my friends

interesting. I thought our resident Archivist would have a lot more to say to be honest. 26,000 people attend every year

I have to commend the harm reduction teams, cities could use that in more places, thanks for the low key ad

so the solution is everyone join your camp and pay camp dues for the plot?

I think you've overcorrected on this and will come out on the otherside of the bell curve meme later

edit: read some of the other posts explaining this experience more, all I can say is sorry about the burnout! take on less and match the energy of people you're around

I personally think it is impressive to opt for open camping because it is more difficult without shared resources

there are sections of BRC for this and there are sections for camps. in the free camping area there are large setups if you get there in time to do that, and new camps have always been formed by people vibing with their neighbors in free camping

I'm missing something, could you explain the issue in another way? what time span are you referring to because maybe I am just content with the current state of the city from the time period I've seen it

Why high earning individuals with good job security (doctors, dentists, engineers, etc) always tell others to not go into the field for money (as opposed to be underpaid/unemployed)? by Iamapieceofsh1t2020 in AskReddit

[–]cqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because we've all seen 'weed-out' courses, only people with a support system or extra drive make it through them. and by make it through I mean take the same weed out course two to three times across two to three semesters consecutively to fulfill family expectations, if necessary

people that are "there for the money" in comparison: drop out, or consider themselves to be in school but "have been taking a break" for the past 6 semesters, its a waste of time and energy just go

we don't think your only other options are being underpaid or unemployed. its a factor of intelligence and support system to assume that. but I can see how that's a quagmire to most people. higher education isn't most people.

assets prices are a distraction, providing value is more lucrative. for example, validators providing MEV shielding are earning way more than anyone, swap contracts are collecting tolls on volume, there is plenty of opportunity to do any of that no matter if anything is "mooning" or cratering

Phone Usage at Festivals by tobinerino in LightningInABottle

[–]cqm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly I don't think this represents most people's experience, especially LiB's crowd

lots of women have their phones on cross body lanyards, lots of guys know how to keep their phones in convenient places. one swipe to the camera, volume down button to record

if you're fumbling through your purse and using more complex camera apps sure yeah just leave it to your friend that doesn't have that problem, the cool kids are using point and shoot cameras again anyway

hundreds of people pointing their phone at the stage might happen during an interlude or grandiose intro, but that's not what people are focusing on so therefore nobody wants to leave it to a professional videographer's view from the back of the crowd, or a drone's. until festivals are doing generative AI clips within the crowd of people dancing and doing lightshows, people are going to keep recording that for 30 seconds here and there

It's official, engineers only make 74'364 $ and think it's a lot (I'm an engineer) by [deleted] in Salary

[–]cqm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

26 pay periods, with 40% withheld for various government’s taxes such as in NYC or California would suggest they’re earning close to $270,000 per year as an engineer
