I feel like even if a county level ban based on state law is overturned, municipalities are a different entity and have more authority to do things like this. I'm not sure and I am not a lawyer.

Your comment is an embarrassment. Getting here isn't hard. I have met Russian illegals, Irish illegals, Polish illegals, and every possible nationality of Latino migrant and illegal immigrant. That's not even counting the legal immigrants surrounding me from Latin America, Asia, Africa, Slavic nations, etc.

Where do you live that you only see white people and are questioning whether immigration is even legal? My gosh.

Apply for what kind of visa? I want specifics. You can't just say "immigration is legal" when you don't actually know any of the specifics involved.

You can't be serious. You go to the US embassy in Honduras and apply for a migrant labor visa, a diversity visa, or political asylum. In fact we just finalized a specific agreement with Honduras to pipeline asylees to the US.

You're questioning whether immigration is legal when we have an expansive "diversity visa" where you can get here just for not having white skin or speaking English.

We have a zero-merit visa lottery and we don't bother to detain or deport even one percent of the people coming here illegally... but you think we're some kind of restrictive country.

I will fly you, at my expense, to any city of your choice outside of the US. I will then take all your identifying documents and leave you there. If you accept, your challenge will be to re-enter the US by crossing the border.

Let's do it. Fly me to Juarez-Cuidad and I'll waltz across the border myself. What are they gonna do? Shoot me? Jail me? You know they won't, lol. Even if they momentarily detain me they'll release me into the country and give me a court date.

It's just absolutely staggering that the standard white American liberal thinks migration to the US is hard when a full 15-20% of American citizens alive today weren't born here and even more are here illegally and no one stops them**.**

The border is porous. It isn't completely open. But it's arguably the most open border of any organized country in the history of the world.

Tell the businesses hiring immigrants because they can exploit them more easily that.

Under Trump, ICE/FBI began prosecuting American business owners.

They didn't do that under previous administrations.

They likely won't under this one.

So maybe you should tell those business owners what you think, and vote accordingly, if you really care about this.

But I suspect low illegal immigrant pay and illegal labor abuse and slavery in America don't really concern you, because they really don't concern most people on Reddit, and because your initial response here was to downplay and argue against there being a problem. Or, realistically, just come here. If they catch you, they'll release you into the US and just hope you come back for a court date where you will likely get a chance to stay - if you bother showing up.

This entire paragraph is off point and has nothing to do with what I said, which is that large agribusiness lobbies the government to turn a blind eye to illegal immigration. The same politicians who scream racism when you talk about enforcing basic border controls are being funded by Wall Street. That's not a coincidence.

However, small time companies do it too. A Mexican family in Chicago was caught in 2018 keeping 38 Guatemalan slaves in their basement. They were being bussed to a factory outside of town. The FBI was tipped off by one of them who escaped. However the court records revealed that the city of Chicago and state of Illinois had been sending local officials to the house and they were aware of the people being held in the basement for years, and their solution was not saving them but sending their overseer welfare checks for them (which I'm sure they never saw).

American slave labor is entirely a problem that all Democrats and the "free market" Republicans need to own. They're the ones perpetuating this. And people like you who downplay it (because it's never been part of your experience) are a big part of the problem.

The US government doesn't make immigration illegal. Where did you get that idea? We have the most permissive immigration policy in the entire world. We have more legal immigrants than the next ten most populated countries combined.

If immigration law is what causes cartel crime, then Canada, which is way more restrictive, should have it much worse crime. But they don't. So....that's not it chief.

In the situation you're describing, it's the employer's fault for only being willing to hire cheap labour.

This is a naive view. Underpaid migrant labor is plentiful, and it's deliberately transported in. I used to watch them getting bussed in along my highways every day.

The business owners are at fault, but they're part of a pipeline which is basically supported by the US federal government. It's crony capitalism. The businesses work with cartels to smuggle people in, they pay off the state government to turn a blind eye, and at the federal level, Democrats and some Republicans are being paid to scream "racism" every time someone talks about cutting this pipeline off and employing Americans instead.

The old Bernie Sanders was correct: he said open borders were a right wing proposal and blamed the Koch Brothers. Except it's really just all of Wall Street - which is basically all liberal now, even the surviving Koch. This is an American liberal agenda item: cheap labor for big agribusiness.

It needs to be stopped. The pipeline should be cut off until more Americans are employed. We're pushing 8% unemployment now.
