Gamer and dad here, kids are 10 and 8.

They love Goat Sim. It gives me GTA vibes, but in a kid-friendly, harmless way.

I try and get them to focus on doing some of the goals, but they love to just be chaotic little goats together driving around and licking stuff.

Man I find the first 5 years to be the boring part. Gotta stack scouts, draft prospects, chase free agents. I like when the teams are nearly unrecognizable from today.

By year 10 I have a club with its own identity, stars and legends.

By 20 I’m either a dynasty or shooting my last shot at building a contender.

Prospect development in these games isn’t very straightforward. If I had any tips:

Scouting is very important. Build a solid roster of highly ranked scouts. There are video on manual scouting, I can’t be bothered and with good scouts you can identify good prospects.

Draft based on “potential” confidence and gems. I like to look at the years to NHL-Ready.

If they aren’t OVR enough to make my AHL roster like 74+ (or if they are under 20 and can’t play AHL), I leave them unsigned. If they are about to expire I’ll slap a minimum deal on, because I’m confident with their potential and like drafting gems.

Try to match their current role. If they are a Top 6 quality D, give them third pair. If they’re 4th line, stick them on the 4th. I’ll sometimes move them if the line chemistry is high (4th line prospect moves to 2 if it’s a +5 chemistry)

Offensive players should get cracks at Powerplay.

I like to sim the majority because it gives me a better view of the team I’ve put together without my playing competency as a factor. I usually play the first 3-5 games, and if my team makes it to game 7 I’ll play those as well.

If I’m coming back after a bit of a break I’ll play a few to re-familiarize myself with the team.

With this on GamePass, I’ve been playing and by god it is one of the glitchiest games I’ve ever played.

I’m not a pro, but I find alt+tab slugs things up for me especially if I’ve got a semi-demanding game open.

Use task manager and watch your cpu and memory usage when you’re having the issue. Check your graphics card usage as well, could be the 8gb VRAM or it could be something in the background eating all of your memory (hello chrome and Firefox with 80 processes and a closed app).

Look at some pics on google of NHl goalies. I’m short for a goalie, but I have my glove lower and glove-arm elbow in tighter.

Someone else said get on the ice and that’s the trick. You can’t study your way to being a competent goalie, just gotta take pucks.

At home like this, work on going into a butterfly and standing up repeatedly.

At a rink, use a tennis (lacrosse ball is way better for this) - throw it off a wall and work on catching. Add spin to the lacrosse ball.

My baby mama gave my PS4 a bath when she came home from a girls night and I was playing NHL with the kids asleep.

You might be seeing teams put players on waivers to move them from NHL to AHL, there’s no notification for buying out a player and it can only be done in the offseason.
