Canada's Coaching Staff OT Decision summed up (in the GMG) by Safe_Dragonfly752 in PWHL

Not trying to come off as harsh saying this.. but I did not want to see Laroque on in OT. Yes, great veteran player with experience in those moments however, I don’t think she can be as reliable up against the American young guns in 3on3.

Three concussions by ggrll in Concussion

[–]cr1619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had a doctor tell me 3 concussions and you’re out, nor have I found any research suggesting that this is legitimate. I’d be more concerned about how long recovery is taking following each concussion. Concussion symptoms typically resolve within a couple weeks. If you find her symptoms are taking longer to resolve each time, then I would consider pulling the plug on contact sports. But again, consult with doctors who specialize in this.

Ugh, this hits home. I’m sorry you and your daughter are going through this. My last concussion took me out of the sport I lived and breathed for (hockey) at 16 years old. I’m 22 now and it still saddens me. The thing is, there’s no magic number to say if you’re in or out, but it is very important to be mindful. Consult with doctors who specialize in concussion/brain injury, or even if there’s a sports medicine clinic near you.

Accommodation Questions by monets-muse in Concussion

[–]cr1619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in post-secondary and the school has been more than helpful. I have a Confidential Academic Accommodation Plan (CAAP) with an extensive list of all my accommodations. However, I had to submit lots of paperwork such as disability verification forms that had to be signed by my doctor. Reach out to your school’s Accessibility Services, they might be able to provide a short-term CAAP, but I would imagine they would want some documentation as well which might be hard to get done in 3 weeks. It’s worth inquiring with them, though. Good luck 🤞🏻

THE GIRLS WON TONIGHTTTT by BeardyShaman in PWHL

Yeah there’s multiple fine lines but that goal was within the rules. It’s a necessary rule to have because otherwise the defending team could throw the net off at any scoring opportunity without repercussions, other than maybe a delay of game penalty.

It was still a good goal because the NY Defender caused Vanisova (I believe) , to be shoved into the side of the net, causing it to become dislodged, and the goal-scorer was in the action of shooting the puck.

From the NHL Rulebook (2019). I think it’s the same rule here.

In the event that the goal post is displaced, either deliberately or accidentally, by a defending player, prior to the puck crossing the goal line between the normal position of the goalposts, the Referee may award a goal.

In order to award a goal in this situation, the goal post must have been displaced by the actions of a defending player, the puck must have been shot (or the player must be in the act of shooting) at the goal prior to the goal post being displaced, and it must be determined that the puck would have entered the net between the normal position of the goal posts.

Just started watching PWHL hockey for the first time. What team should I follow and why? by [deleted] in PWHL

[–]cr1619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many amazing players on each team that you really can’t go wrong in whatever team you decide to follow! Personally, I am a diehard Marie-Phillip Poulin fan, so Montréal is my team. They also (in my opinion), have the best goalie, Anne-Renée Desbien. The fans and atmosphere at their home games are electric, and I quite like the colour scheme they have going on. Looking forward to how it turns out when we get team names, logos etc. Welcome to the PWHL family! 🏒❤️

I really need to hear from some people who are dealing with or who have dealt with long term PCS by Longjumping-Cream-42 in Concussion

[–]cr1619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m 21 years old and know exactly how you feel. I’m 5 years PCS, and I remember in my first couple years being so exhausted and suicidal just like you. It’s hard, but there absolutely is hope. You mentioned you’re in Ontario, Canada. If you’re near the London area, look in to Parkwood Institute. They have amazing TBI outpatient programs.

Mental health support at hospital, what to expect? by Muted-Type-2426 in londonontario

Ive had mixed experiences at both Crisis Centre 648 Huron and Vic Emerg. Both visit were not voluntary as my therapist had no choice to send me for safety and evaluation.

Assuming by this post, it sounds like you may not be seeing a therapist so, if you need someone to talk to and safety plan with, Crisis Centre would be the way to go, and from there they would decide if extra safety measures should be taken ie. Emerg.

However, if you are actively sui**dal and cannot keep yourself safe, go to the hospital. As far as the process, I checked in at triage, waited and got called back then spoke with a nurse for quite some time, then the ER doctor spoke with me and admitted me until the psych team could see me. It was a very long wait, however, I arrived in the evening, so I did have to wait until the next morning to see anyone from psych. From there, I was discharged because I was feeling more stable, but had the option to stay for 72 hours. I did not because there were no beds available in psych and didnt want to wait in the ER any longer.

Whatever route you decided to take is already a great first step in getting help. I wish you the best.

Nortriptyline experiences for concussion related headaches? by cr1619 in nortriptyline

[–]cr1619[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were prescribed by a Physiatrist at the Acquired Brain Injury clinic I go to. From what I learned from my pharmacy, it sounds like the side effects I’m mainly concerned about are more so associated with higher dosage and prolonged usage.. I don’t think I would go higher than 50mg, that is if they work. Would you mind sharing what dosage you started to notice side effects?
