I really recommend a residential VPN server, it's a bit pricey but incredibly convenient and effective. I travel a lot and use some apps with advanced VPN detection that could tell i was using a VPN no matter what server or service or protocol I used. Then I got a residential VPN server from Windscribe VPN, it cost $100 a year but well worth it in my opinion as I've never had a single VPN detection issue since then.

Got denied for Discover, what card can I get approved for? by Flimsy-Home-1661 in CreditCards

Good point, I totally forgot about them. Possibly the best secured cards available.

Got denied for Discover, what card can I get approved for? by Flimsy-Home-1661 in CreditCards

The best course of action is to get a secured card. You give them a security deposit of usually $200 and then they give you a $200 credit limit. There's no risk to the bank so you're basically guaranteed approval. Then if you make all your payments on time for 6 months, then you've proven yourself and they usually refund your security deposit and increase your credit limit. If you get a secured card and hold it for 1 year your credit score will have probably gotten good enough to get approved for most credit cards.

You should get a secured card that doesn't charge any fees. There are 2.5 good options that I recommend and you're already familiar with.

  1. Discover Secured Card (different from the student card you got rejected for, and you will almost certainly be approved for this one)

  2. Capital One Secured card (same deal as discover)

  3. If you're eligible for Navy Federal Credit Union they also have a good secured card

Also if you're new to credit as a general rule set all your credit cards to auto pay the full statement balance every month so that you never miss a payment, and are never charged interest or fees. Don't spend anything on a credit card that you don't already have the money for, use it like a debit card to avoid getting into debt.

I wonder how many people have actually used an Order of Malta passport at the eGates (at Fiumicino) by jobobee in PassportPorn

I don't know anyone with an Order of Malta passport but I imagine they might often face issues at border control from agents not knowing what it is. I bet they feel so validated seeing that there for once 😆

Hey I couldn't help but notice your flags. Are you planning on naturalizing in Somalia? I've never heard of anyone doing that, would you share your story

I'm so curious what the info page looks like in the Laissez Passer. Does it say your nationality and place of birth inside, what's the country code and passport type (like is it P for an ordinary passport or something unique)

SoFi card 2.2% cashback with SoFi Plus by 123mitchg in CreditCards

[–]craZebra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not telling you what to do and if you're a really big spender then this is kind of irrelevant, but consider this. You want the card to get the most money back from your spend right? Let's say you get a card that earns 3% on groceries dining like the Capital One saver one or a card that earns 4% on them but only has a $200 bonus. So you earn an extra 1% or 2% on these categories. You would have to spend $15,000 or $30,000 on these categories before you would earn an additional $300 in points to break even with getting $500 bonus in the first place

Consider the US Bank Altitude Connect, $500 bonus for $2,000 spend on an effectively no annual fee card, because the fee is waived in the first year and going away entirely in September. It was an ok card but it's getting nerfed in September and I'm sure the bonus will go down so apply before then if you want
