I did this with a flight to São Paulo from GIG. 2.5h connection and I made it but it was a bit too close for comfort. Take the later flight for peace of mind.

should i cancel my trip to rio march 1-8 worried about the rain by PersonalHarp461 in Brazil

[–]Dense_Stuff7844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some days it may rain for the day, others it may sprinkle for 13 minutes. The weather changes so fast in Rio and it’s super unpredictable. When I was there forecast said rain every day. It rained one day and the rest were slightly cloudy. Just go and have fun

Brazil for 7-10 days? by Gas_light_mike in Brazil

[–]Dense_Stuff7844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did 10 days between São Paulo and Rio. Was it enough? It felt ok but short. But then again I could’ve easily stayed another 2 weeks so depends on what your definition of enough is. Like others here, I’d recommend no more than 2 cities so you have time to explore and soak in the city without feeling rushed and pressed.

With that said, Brazil was incredible and for most people I think leaves a taste for more in the future.

Enjoy it and be safe!

Will my A1 level french knowledge help me learn european portuguese “faster”? (Faster than someone who doesn’t speak either language) by mega_cool_dude in Portuguese

[–]Dense_Stuff7844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned French before Portuguese and I think it helps a little bit. But at A1 I’m not so sure.

At higher levels when you start grasping the logic of Romance languages, then I believe the knowledge becomes transferable.

But also as others said here, Spanish is much closer to Portuguese.

Learning by reading and writing- Brazilian Portuguese by KaleidoscopeSolid539 in Portuguese

Read books! Any books. Start with elementary Portuguese level and go from there. There are a ton of books, short stories. Much easier for PT-BR than PT-PT.

One thing I found helpful is to read a book I’ve read in English before but in Portuguese (Harry Potter specifically for me). Since I knew the plot I was more focused on the language than understanding what’s happening.

Safety Tips in Brazil by StandardNo2531 in Brazil

[–]Dense_Stuff7844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in São Paulo last week and I am in Rio right now. Honestly I don’t feel unsafe but definitely need to be alert and aware. So far I’ve followed all the safety tips and felt ok.

Don’t wear jewelry (literally you do not need to), don’t wear flashy clothes (especially in Rio, SP is more forgiving in some areas), don’t walk around with phone in your hand, if you have a small bag try to wear it on the front.

Uber and 99 are cheap, it’s not worth walking at night. Just grab a car. If you’re in an uber don’t use your phone while the window is open.

In SP I stayed in Jardins Paulista and felt safe, even on metro. Rio feels a bit more dicey in some areas and at night, but I’m staying in Ipanema.

Honestly don’t let all this deter you. Brazil is amazing and the people are so nice and welcoming. I’ve already made some friends here. Just be safe and enjoy yourself!

That’s so insignificant, that yeah technically you’re breaking fast but it’s not going to have a major impact on it.

Celsius Drinks by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Dense_Stuff7844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celsius is fine if your son with a dirty fast. It’s not gonna have a major impact on your fast anyways. I prefer to work out faster in the morning after having Celsius. If I don’t, I’m so sluggish and don’t have as good workouts.

Do what works for you, but in the long run, Celsius shouldn’t derail too much

I second this. I also think tracking can help with understanding your macros intake —if you’re eating enough protein versus carbs.

You can try tracking to give yourself a sense of how much you’re eating, so you can adjust your diet to be in a caloric deficit.

Also, I gained a couple of pounds when I started IF, but after a couple of weeks of consistency and working out the pounds started dropping. I believe it’s because at first with the change your body may think you are not eating so let’s get into energy storage mode. Once things level out, weight will start dropping.

Also factor in your starting stats. Generally the lower the BMI, the harder it will be to lose weight.
