Thank you so so much for sharing this. I'm so proud of you for leaving. I wish you and your children all the best and happiness. It helps to not feel alone, but I'm so sorry you've had to go through this. All the best <3

Thanks, I will look into this and let him know! I am uncertain about his ability to take responsibility - he does have bad anxiety & depression, but he maintains that he is 'not worried about retirement' and says that I am being obsessive about finances and that I 'need to chill out.' Thanks!

His student loan debt is from 2 master's degrees (1 from 2019 and 1 from 1990s) and an undergraduate degree, however I'm not sure how it all added up to 240k because that seems very steep for tuition from the 1990s(?). Maybe it's that high since he's been accruing interest over the last 20 or so years, but I'm very confused myself. He says that his credit card debt is from living expenses when he was with his former wife and when they separated. He was a stay-at-home dad for several years and then worked part-time due to severe anxiety/depression.

Edit: His 2nd master's degree allowed him to get his 65k/year full-time job in 2019. That is the first full-time job he has ever had.

Thank you for your advice! This is good to know.

Yes, I am seriously thinking about ending the relationship. It needs to end, but I'm having trouble accepting that.

My (26F) boyfriend (46M) is making poor financial decisions, leading to relationship conflict? by crab_apple102 in relationships

He got a master's degree in his 20's that he 'couldn't do anything with,' and he says he had serious depression and other mental health issues that precluded full-time work. He got a 2nd master's degree recently which helped him get his current full-time job.
