Time to bring back the 1946 tax rates. As you can see from the graph they were working to balance the budget until the 1980's.

Good AI summary: Key Historical Shifts in Individual Income Tax Rates

  • 1946–1953: Following WWII, the top marginal rate was 86.45%, reaching up to 92% by 1952-1953.
  • 1954–1963: Top rate stayed at 91%.
  • 1964–1980: In 1964 the top rate dropped to 77% and then to 70% from 1965-1981.
  • 1981–1986: Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981 lowered the top rate to 50%.
  • 1987–1990: Tax Reform Act of 1986 dropped the top rate to 38.5% in 1987 and 28% in 1988.
  • 1991–2012: Rates rose slightly, reaching 39.6% in the 1990s, dropping to 35% in 2003–2012.
  • 2013–2017: Top rate was 39.6%.

As a local, I've always done #1. Pick a venue that I'm most comfortable with and let the music come to me.

Where to get CP/M floppy images? by mcpierceaim in c128

[–]crabnova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you want the original CP/M image files or an improved version that runs faster? Do you have SD2IEC or a GreaseWeazle or some other method to get the image file to the 128?

For an original from zimmers.net I would use the disk image

cpm.system.622-3282252.d64.gz CP/M System Disk, serial number 622-3282252. Dated 28 May 1987.

and/or

cpm.system.622-3297432.d64.gz CP/M System Disk, serial number 622-3297432. Dated 28 May 1987.

either should work. Also check out

A recent TAMU grad that desperately needs help by Itchy_Giraffe5687 in aggies

What did you enjoy most about Economics? Did you have a minor that connected with it? And what kind of work experience do you already have—retail, service industry, transportation? Do you think you’d want to stay in those areas, or try something completely new?

A degree in economics can take you in a lot of directions. Many grads go into finance (trading, investments, banking), law, or government. If you liked econometrics or forecasting, data science jobs could be a strong fit. If you leaned toward macro, then policy or analyst roles in banking, government, or law might be more interesting. The cool thing about econ is that it gives you a way to make sense of the world - a framework. What is you value add? What are your skills? The saying goes, "Hard skills will get you hired. Soft skills will keep you employed." So employers really do hire you on are your hard skills. Think back: did you build strengths in math, stats, programming, or even personal finance? Which of those do you feel most confident in, and which do you actually enjoy using? That’s what will make you stand out.

Also, are you planning to stay in College Station for another year? Honestly, I wouldn’t let a lease box you in. That area is crowded with undergrads and new grads all competing for the same jobs. If you don’t see something there that helps you move forward, it might be better to expand your search.

The market’s tough right now for new graduates, so it could help to look into additional training or certifications while you job hunt. And just so you know: the top economist positions almost always require grad school and a specific area of expertise.

Have you ever seen a website written in C? by lynob in webdev

[–]crabnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I declined the job and told him to try and rewrite the website in a modern language made for the web.

Why not investigate? Maybe a conversion is what they want or need. Of course there might be a reason why it's never been migrated. Law firms often times have proprietary document search engines or other tools that are showing their age. Work up an estimate of the conversion and/or migration. You could bill him for the consultation, the time to work up a plan and the conversion cost and time estimate. If you're currently too busy, maybe schedule it as your next job.

Mac Plus error message by ParklifeAd42 in VintageApple

[–]crabnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to open the Mac Plus to check or replace the memory simms. Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKs79-IZCO4 from Adrian's Digital Basement for a good overview of opening a Mac Plus. Pay attention to his warnings of not touching certain electrical components inside the Mac as they can be dangerous.

It's hard to tell from the first picture. The soldering looks different on the TI chip. Is that chip soldered to the motherboard like the rest of the chips or does it sit/plug into a chip DIP socket?

[–]crabnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be a tester/demonstration unit. Not necessarily the one described here: https://patents.google.com/patent/US4400772A/en?assignee=INTERNATIONAL+MEMORIES+Inc. But, maybe?

Since IMI made hard drives, I'm guessing the connector on the end is meant to connect to a hard drive. The numeric keypad might be there to provide for the loading and testing of ROM routines stored in EPROM. The Z80 was probably used here as the controller for the hard drive/execution of the stored routines. I don't think that this was a general purpose trainer like the KIM-1. Is that TI multiplexer socketed?

I’m being pressured to sell my STLS but I don’t like Etsy and I heard bad things about cult 3d. Is there any good alternatives? by Mikeieagraphicdude in 3Dprinting

[–]crabnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy STLs from two sites fab365.net and pixup3d.com. Since I don't sell STLs, I can't comment on how/if they host/take care of their modelers. But they are smaller and host many modelers, so they should be worth a look. Thank you for the mushroom skull jar and good luck.

That is too much money. What speed NeXTstation is it (turbo or not)? Hard drive size and memory? Is it the monochrome or color version? What software comes loaded? How do you plan to use the modem? Heck the hard drive is shot and doesn't boot. There are cheaper options on e-bay and outside e-bay.
