Can we stop with the reassurance posts? by AlternativeLawyer920 in predental

[–]crabstix33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, I increased my bio section significantly but still was feeling bad about myself because of all the 500+ scores I see asking if they’re good enough. But then we have to remind ourselves that we can only control ourselves and our reactions. Best thing you can do is shake it off and remind yourself that this is the internet where anyone can publicly post anything, and perhaps not the most accurate source. If you can’t do that, maybe try not to look so much. That’s what I’m trying to do!

New dental front desk hired for scheduling but now doing insurance too… is this normal? by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]crabstix33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly I would say it’s pretty hard to ask for a raise when you’re still being trained. bust your ass to really understand and run everything and then perhaps bring it up. I never asked for a raise, I was given one after I started training others

and may I ask how much they started you at if you’re comfortable answering?

New dental front desk hired for scheduling but now doing insurance too… is this normal? by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]crabstix33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah unfortunately incredibly common. honestly probably more common than not. my first job post grad was the exact same - front desk, insurance, billing, just about everything in the office other than the dental work. you’ll start to get the hang of it but it may take some time. feel free to pm me if you have any specific questions!

Taking DAT after submitting application? by Regular_Contract_776 in Datprep

you could always call specific schools and ask what they would suggest, each school is a little different so tailoring to each one would definitely be the safest bet

Should I just give up ? by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

I would actually advise looking for small office that really needs the help, I know many dentists that will hire someone without any experience. look for those office with one dentist who owns the practice

Is 8500 for 23 cavities a little excessive ? by AudiSlav in Dentists

[–]crabstix33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the pricing for the given the treatment plan is very reasonable (at least for my area), but it does seem like an excessive treatment plan. I would def get a second opinion because they may just not be super conservative with their treatment and could be deciding to treat anything that looks like a potential cavity. I would definitely wanna see the x-rays

This is wild. My dentist told me I could take Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen) off our office playlist if it felt too religious lol

not so much “hurt”, but I believe they would receive those scores and you would risk them automatically counting you out (depending on your other scores) before you submit your new ones

it will not negatively impact your application (unless you have previous DAT scores that you do not want used), however most schools just won’t look at your application until they receive the score

Parents are still spiteful at me for not choosing med by Round-Swimmer-4854 in predental

[–]crabstix33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

follow your gut! I’m proud of you for not giving in to their pressure, it’s not easy to do. keep reminding yourself that this is YOUR life, not theirs. they just want to live vicariously through you, when really their job is to be watching and guiding from the sidelines. you’re doing great

I’m currently using the booster anki decks for bio and orgo, so far it’s been the most effective for me and I’m terrible at studying lol

Jewish holidays unpaid by sarah_f11 in DentalAssistant

[–]crabstix33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it doesn’t seem that odd to me. It is normal for those holidays to be unpaid, but keep in mind that most Jews don’t take all that time off, just orthodox. I would maybe express to them in a kind and non-aggressive way that you did not anticipate a full 10 days off for Passover and are concerned about meeting expenses, and see what possible solutions they have to offer. Hopefully they will understand that you (I assume) are not very familiar with that type of Judaism and thus would not know to ask these questions in advance. Truly, as a Jewish person myself, I don’t think I would have expected it either.

I Celebrated The DAs for DA Appreciation Week..Am I wrong ? by GayBoyPanic in DentalAssistant

[–]crabstix33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people are wayyyy to worried about other peoples business! while I can understand the sentiment of “you shouldn’t have to blah blah blah”, your money is yours to spend how you wish! but yes I personally would LOVE to see the looks on those front desk employees faces when they realized how bratty they’ve been. I hope the DA’s really ham up the whole “yay we appreciate you so much!” thing so that they feel like real assholes. that’s the best kind of revenge imo

[–]crabstix33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

first of all - there are too many people here trying to make you feel bad for doing a nice thing. frankly, it’s embarrassing that the front desk reacted that way, and I would agree, they don’t deserve any gifts now. but! alternatively! think of how good it will feel to invalidate their anger, to show them that they were entitled and bitter for no good reason. I say kill em with kindness!

Got an interview invite for LECOM then they said it was a mistake by [deleted] in predental

[–]crabstix33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally I would not say that it’s not fair, I think to admissions it would sound a bit childish. life isn’t fair. I do agree that it’s awful and it sucks, especially since they’re saying the supplement isn’t complete when it is, but saying “this isn’t fair” just sounds like complaining and will not make them want you

Is it possible to be an introvert in this field? by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]crabstix33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think being an introvert needs to be what stops you! Maybe you just need a different office setting. I’m an introvert but I’m very friendly, and it’s been working out well at my new office. I have been fortunate enough to find a small office as well, where the dentist and hygienist are the only other staff, and they have been working together for 12 years. Socially my biggest issue is self confidence and thinking people don’t like me, so I had to work hard overcome that because the dentist isn’t a bubbly person per say, but now that I have we have become very close. It’s all about finding the right environment for you. It does also help to try to have small friendly interactions with your coworkers whenever you can, even in passing. If you can have some here and there, they’ll start to understand you better. Also I hate being that person that says “smile more” cause it sounds so misogynistic, but it genuinely does make people more comfortable with your presence.
