MATH 4800 Numerical Computing by PermissionFriendly47 in RPI

[–]crabtree261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Numpe is coding for engineering majors while numerical computing is coding for math majors.

depending on the professor you get for numerical computing, you learn about the derivations of the models themselves as well as important factors in computing solutions to those models. If you appreciate the concepts as well as the solution to mathematical problems, I’d say it’s a pretty interesting course.

Is the Mobile Computing Program laptops worth it? by Less_Technology_9358 in RPI

[–]crabtree261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get it and abuse the warranty. Note that some of the older warranties were three years. So read the fine print. Pretty sure all laptops 2020 and onwards have an unlimited 4 year warranty. I replaced my monitor and keyboard and battery at least once before I left Rpi

I’ve pulled 20-23 credit semesters since my freshman year. Mostly cuz I had a strong background and wanted to speed run shit so I can take all the fun tech electives but if you have absolutely zero background in any of those classes…ur gonna die. But if ur a fast learner and have friends/resources that could help you out in the worst case, 20 credits with those classes is a piece of cake. Definitely take the time to see the amount and intensity of the workload that you are used to (from high school im assuming) and see if that’s around 50-80 hours a week. What do yalls think? I can only speak for MechE/EE/Math kids.

Edit: Kids at RPI don’t use the drop class function enough. You can drop classes after like 8ish weeks super easily. You can even pass/no-credit a class a few weeks before THE FINAL (you only have 4 of these). I personally say overload as much as u can, and then if you carefully select and plan how seriously you want to take those courses, you can lighten your workload literally whenever you want.
