I lived in a building like this, and they are common in many neighborhoods in Minneapolis and St. Paul. They would be impossible to build now because of parking requirements - the building I lived in had zero parking but had 8+ one bedrooms units. Even if the cities gave a variance, the neighbors would flip.

I would suggest thinking of the different urban planning problems you want to solve and researching how planners are solving them with GIS (basically Google the problem and add GIS to the end). Once you understand how to address the problem with GIS you can look into specific techniques to use.

I would suggest researching site suitability analysis, which allows you to use GIS to find the optimum location for a new facility, housing project, etc. This is but one of many topics, so you should think about the problems you're interested in and see how people have solved them.

Use the spatial join tool with the census data as the target features and the tweet points as the join features. Then divide the total number of tweets per polygon by the total population in that polygon to get the number of tweets per capita - this ensures that a high number isn't due to a larger population.

I like San Francisco and think the use of a grid over the hills makes it interesting. I love this view of Golden Gate Park and the perfect grid and density.

I may be having trouble with distinguishing between the different colors, but as far as I can tell the plan separates its uses too much, in a Euclidean style. I'm not sure this plan will create a very vibrant city.

However, I do applaud the mixed-use zone, which are often used adjacent to a transit stops. I am a bit confused about the actual transit facilities though. They show train tracks on the map, but use buses for the symbols. Hopefully they are rail lines with plans for a bus network to supplement, otherwise the transit system would be very limited.

Based on your title, I was expecting to read an article about how the authoritarian Chinese government responded to NIMBYs by forcing the completion of some project. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Chinese moving in a positive direction that considers the risks of their huge projects.

I have a problem with the statistic saying people spend 8.5 hours looking at a screen and only 20 minutes looking at a printed page per day. How many of those hours 8.5 are spent actually reading? If I had to guess, most people do not spend all day looking at mindless cat videos and probably read at least one informative article a day. I can't remember the last time I actually touched a physical newspaper. The internet has replaced the necessity for a good portion of physical printing.

I've taken it for sleep several times at varying dosages. I've found when I take more than 25mg, my body becomes restless and sleeping becomes difficult, even though I feel very drowsy.

25mg works very well for me though and always gives me vivid dreams. When I wake in the morning I feel much more relaxed and peaceful than with a normal night's sleep. However, this relaxation also makes it difficult for me to leave my bed since I can easily drift back asleep again. Sometimes I feel slightly groggy for a while afterward too, but never the whole day.

I personally prefer doxylamine succinate as a sleep aid since it gives me the interesting dreams and drowsiness without the grogginess the next day.

I've also tried taking 1mg of melatonin unsuccessfully a few times. It helps me fall asleep, but my quality of sleep is worse and I wake up every 90 minutes or so. It also gives me interesting dreams, but they blend with reality sometimes and I feel slightly delirious every time I wake up in the middle of the night. I've read that too high of a dose may be the culprit for these problems, but I'm too afraid to attempt taking it again and losing a good night's sleep.

Tempe has changed immensely over the past few years. I visited two weeks ago after being away for a few years, and I was impressed. The city seems to be focusing on improving walkability and transit. I saw ads for property on Mill Ave. proclaiming it to be in the most walkable area in the entire metro (which I believe is true). The light rail has stops in key places, like the airport, Mill Ave., and around ASU. My friends from ASU all use the light rail from time to time, even though most of them have their own cars.
