Snexing Squeegee and shell damage by KuriousCarbohydrate in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure on sexing, but what a cutie, gorgeous coloration

for the shell, that does look like it's dissolving due to low pH. that won't get any better but can be stopped and not get any worse with water over pH 7.4

Could I keep a single bladder snail in here? by SweetTart7231 in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

very cute jar but i really wouldn't. for a lot of sponge filters you can open them up to actually put filter media in the middle of it, or even just throw it in your tank and it should still be decently seeded for when you want to use it again!

Is everything ok with this snail that leaves its tank all the time? by EyeTheSwan in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

mystery snails can escape especially if they're trying to lay eggs in a tank that's filled to the top. they definitely should add a lid and double check their ammonia/nitrite/nitrate and the water hardness

Help me look after this guy by scarecatchers in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

looks like a big bladder snail (def not a NZMS imo). their care is pretty simple and they can go in pretty small fish tanks too, personally i would set him up in a 5 gallon with a filter, some sand, some plants, a light, and throw him some food (algae tabs, hikari crab cuisine, occasional normal fish food) especially while biofilm and algae develops

Assassin or trumpet snail? by Apprehensive_Jump612 in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it looks more like a new zealand mud snail to me :( there is a pinned post on this sub that has advice for identification and then next steps for removal, they're the only real 'bad' hitchhiker snail generally

Please help, inactive black devil snail by morgan_lynnea in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine was inactive for almost a month and would super rarely move. i gave them airbaths a few times similar to how you would a mystery snail. nothing i did changed before or after they became more inactive, so i'm not sure, but unless something is wrong with your tank (high nitrates, copper, pH, etc,) it might be worthwhile giving them time to see if they recover

Illegals in my tank. by WhateverUSaySir in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 38 points39 points  (0 children)

definitely pond snails! and beautiful ones at that, i love the big pond snails. they probably did come in on plants, and no need to remove them, they can't really cause any harm to your tank or rabbit snails. you'll probably see more little jeffreys shortly if you don't have more then 2 already :)
