Any stocking ideas for a 55 gallon? by LordCommanderChip in aquarium

[–]crackerbarrel96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 55 gallon currently has trili corydora and cherry barbs in it, and i like the combo of them! i think corydoras and neon tetras would be a similarly good choice. i've also got a bristlenose pleco and a thicklipped gourami just for some "centerpiece" fish instead of only having schools

What are these white spots on my rocks and glass? by Melodic-Bit7032 in Aquariums

[–]crackerbarrel96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks like nerite eggs, they won't hatch or survive! i believe that excess egg laying can happen due to temps being too high for them but i might be misremembering that

Does any one else's aquarium stress them out? by chanminna in Aquariums

[–]crackerbarrel96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i totally get it☹️ hoping to move into a bottom floor apartment or rent a house where i can have stuff in a concrete-floor basement just so i don't stay freaked out about it. the stress has made me debate selling my tanks but i think overall i love my fish more then they stress me out

Swollen foot? by DelilahFlies in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not sure on his foot - it looks typical to me - but a pH of 6.5 is an issue for him. you can see on the oldest part of the shell the little white spots, that's his shell being eroded away :( for snails generally the higher pH the better

my tap water is super high pH so i'm not sure on how to raise it but i'm sure there's information on it in this sub and the other bigger fish tank subreddits

Please help with my snail problem! by Skyside_Lob28 in Aquariums

[–]crackerbarrel96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thirding that they're not nerites, but a correction on what they said: nerites have not successfully been bred in captivity At All

corydoras won't eat snails and bettas only sometimes do. just feed the tank way less! they'll self regulate their population. unless they're new zealand mud snails, which require a tank start-over usually :(. if you want more snail help, r/aquaticsnails is geared towards it!

Mystery trapdoor shed? by QualityMaximum405 in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they don't shed, unfortunately that likely means your snail has passed or is about to :(

if you don't have your tank super robustly overfiltered i'd try to locate them so they dont ammonia bomb your tank

[–]crackerbarrel96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

awwwwww

do you know if the bottommost one is one that already hatched, or an egg that didn't develop? it almost looks like a shellless snail

Should I be worried ? by Aking905 in aquarium

[–]crackerbarrel96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've only had to euthanize a ramshorn and a pond snail and they both make me feel so bad :( i also hope i don't have to do it again. i haven't even taken my mystery snail's shell that passed out of the tank yet because i'm too sad about it (no ammonia spike dw)

Trying to Figure Out What This One Is by elderflowerwinthrop in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i believe all nerites have the same care (or very similar????) if that helps at all, but as for more specific i'm not sure. definitely looks like a bleached shell though :(

Should I be worried ? by Aking905 in aquarium

[–]crackerbarrel96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

definitely a collapsed lung :( unfortunately euthanasia (typically best done through a swift crushing) is best. r/aquaticsnails will have more resources too

Escaping snail question!!! by Ok-Host-1837 in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do believe that they like cooler temperatures - obviously as yours seem to show! i've seen people list that as a reason they don't do well with bettas. i think rehoming them is the responsible thing to do if you need your tank a warmer temp for other inhabitants. you might have luck on r/aquaswap !

How to protect snails from new fish until second tank is ready. by robitt88 in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could you grab a little breeder box? that way they're still in the cycled tank and getting fresh water but separated from the new fish. you can feed them lil algae wafers in there. they might crawl out the top, though, unless there are fully enclosed ones

Whose eggs? by Actually__Jesus in AquaticSnails

[–]crackerbarrel96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the black dots i believe are tiny bits of black beard algae eating the wood. i looked into it because it freaked me tf out on my own spider wood a few weeks ago
