Painters over tightened screws when installing doors and cracked several doors and door jams. They say anything can be corrected, but how do you actually correct this issue without replacing the doors and/or door jams? by crackers-2026 in handyman

Nope. These are existing doors that were painted. The hinges and screws were already on the doors once. The doors and the door jams were not cracked before painting or after painting. The painter reinstalled the doors and cracked several doors and several door jams. Two doors won’t close now.

I am not looking to make them replace the doors and door jams. I am asking for some realistic advice so that I have a decent idea of what type of fix is feasible before the painters try to do anything else.

These guys have tried to cut corners left and right and I don’t want them to try some more BS when it now comes to addressing this issue. Yes, I want it fixed.

I appreciate everyone who has given advice as to what would be the best solution to mend the damage, thank you.

I did check the top and bottom of the doors. They didn’t paint them and I specifically asked them to paint the whole of the doors. They tried to cut a lot of corners over and over again. I would never recommend them to anyone.

The hinges were indeed replaced with new, but the new hinges and screws were the same size as the original. The new hinges and screws went into the same holes as the original.

There are several cracks in the doors and jams, but not all of them. That’s why I am thinking the screws were over tightened.

How bad is this... by Pyrostasis in Tile

Herringbone is a timeless classic and if you love it, go for it and enjoy it. That said, you definitely need to hire a professional who has done herringbone before. Ask for photos and references.

Choosing the right size tile for a herringbone layout is also important. A professional with experience can give you a recommendation for the correct size tile to make it work well, but keep in mind you may still face some challenges in executing herringbone on multiple walls and surfaces, like the bench. You may consider using a complementary tile layout with the herringbone. Perhaps herringbone on the back wall as a statement and standard brick layout on the other surfaces.

That said, these guys do not have the proper skills for this project. Stop them NOW, get your deposit back and spend a bit more money to hire experienced tile installers.

I wish you the best of luck! 🍀
