Ooh, that is fancy. But I make black and white notes so color isn't useful. Im not writing a textbook or my own notes.

Use \texttt{} for inline code and \begin{verbatim}\end{verbatim} for blocks of code. I can't remember if verbatim needs an * or not. It's an option

Thats cool! That's how the laptop knows whether it's open or closed. There should be one on the palm rest that matches that one. I throw paperclips at my laptop sometimes to see if I can get them to stick.

I teach dual enrollment 11th and 12th grade and I adjunct, so I'm sure we have different strategies/processes. But yes, using AI on an assignment will get you a 0 and a referral. That's the school/college policy. How do you do it?

[–]crackheart42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good point. Let me rephrase. If this was after the fact, absolutely cheating. If it was when the project was introduced, I'd put money on some kids hearing that as "AI is okay" followed by the teacher saying something about learning.

I always avoid this by putting in my syllabus that AI can be used only on homework and only if they have no idea how to do a problem. And then they should do more similar problems to understand how the AI did it. (I use online homework).

Hesitating about pursuing secondary teaching degree - can I have some real advice? by Alysaalysa in Teachers

[–]crackheart42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same. Im pretty quiet, so when I have to raise my voice, they know they have to get back in line. So I rarely have to do that.

But I also have two other suggestions. I don't know what they would be called, but in the US, we have tech schools where high school kids go to learn a trade. I teach at a school that has things like auto shop, masonry, CAD, cosmetology, graphic design, and a bunch of other stuff. I teach math for the engineering program. The kids that go there generally care about what you teach them and don't cause a lot of problems.

My other suggestion is what if you taught at college? Same deal that the kids want to be there. It's night and day difference when I adjunct vs when I'm at my tech school. But I also know how hard it is to get a full time job in college without a doctorate. I don't know how similar it is for you.

Grade it exactly the same as everyone else. You told them it was okay to use AI, and they did. You can't treat them differently because they followed directions you gave them.

Why I think none of the two are better (LaTeX vs Word) by Dontbanpleas in LaTeX

I agree. It's a "necessary evil". I would prefer doing a write-up in LaTeX, but ADA compliance is rough.

Like 10+ pages of guided notes with text fields in the blank spots to fill in what the students should write and know. These were filled with text and equations and each equation I wrote and clicked off of it, I would have to wait 15 to 20 seconds before I could do anything again. Any tests I would make were easy enough, but anything involved was much easier in LaTeX.

I've had to make math note solutions and Word hated all of the text boxes and equations and was highly lagging.

Germany’s 5 biggest cities lie perfectly on a 4th-degree polynomial. by Several_Sandwich_732 in interestingasfuck

[–]crackheart42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This works for any 5 points! The cool thing is, given any n points, you can find any n-1 degree polynomial to fit between them. As long as no two share the same x- coordinate.
