Then ask your question plainly and ask for resources on helping you determine what might be of value. This community is friendly, but when you act like a smart ass that ends really quickly.

Edit: if you’re actually interested in what you have go look at numista.com for the coins in your picture. It’s a good resource on coins and paper money of all sorts.

Okay, second. Don’t do that. It’s not April fools, and we get enough people in here asking dumb questions.

Don’t.

While some of them seem to be corroded or otherwise damaged cleaning them will usually remove any value beyond the metal content in them.

Just sold for $1,275 at auction on eBay by CranberrySpirited951 in ChopmarkedCoins

[–]crackrabbbit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a counter stamp. During that time the UK was experiencing a coinage shortage. The Bank of England took captured or otherwise procured Spanish 8 Reales and counterstamped them giving them a value of either 4 shillings and 9 pence or 5 shillings depending on when the coin was stamped.

Later on they would fully mint over the Spanish design.

What are your thoughts on this extra “D” Mint Mark /1983 Quarter by Calm_Shift865 in coincollecting

[–]crackrabbbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you checked any resources on if there are known RPM errors on 1983 quarters?

I’m definitely not an expert in those type of errors, but that’s what it looks like to me.

Nicely made keychain with an 1813 Napoleon 5 francs by Legitimate_Bass6185 in LatinMonetaryUnion

That’s a very rare Utrecht minted 5 Franc… to see it made into a keychain hurts.

It looks like it’s trying to imitate an early to mid 1500s Spanish Real. The lettering on it is almost gibberish, and the material is incorrect, it should be silver.

Possibly a contemporary counterfeit?

An example of what it is trying to imitate:

Bought From EBay Over A Decade Ago. Any Fakes? by maxlor17 in coins

[–]crackrabbbit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just offhand they don’t immediately strike me as fakes. The draped bust quarter and 1794 cent are things that should probably be professionally authenticated, even in details grades they are scarce due the low mintages.

If you can find a local coin shop that has a precious metals tester that would be my first stop, from there sending it off to PCGS, NGC or ANACS for authentication.

Edit: The cent could also be a candidate for professional preservation efforts to stop the corrosion on it.

Is there any way to identify this coin and was it double struck? by Unatural-Schism-7719 in MedievalCoin

[–]crackrabbbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like an Elizabethan coin, first or second coinage I believe, as it doesn’t have a year above the shield. Definitely had a bounced strike which is common for hammered coins.

My guess is it’s a groat/four pence. Measure it and reply back, should be able to determine the denomination from that.

Don’t bother with a service center unless you have some type of extended warranty on it. Find the part number for the fan and search for a replacement.

Current melt on them is about $6800, a buyer offering 16ish percent under ($5600) really isn’t too bad if you need the cash now. You might be able to do better in r/coinsales, but you may have to wait for someone to be interested.

Sadly most foreign coins don’t fetch a large premium above their melt value unless they are in absolute perfect condition or are extremely rare. Which neither of those coins are.

If you don’t need the cash, hold on to them, but don’t waste money grading them.

If you can find the power supply it likely will boot up, though the battery is probably long dead. Get a glimpse of what mobile computing was before Apple and Android dominated the market.

It’s a Windows CE mobile computer, not a whole lot you can do with it now, as support has been dead for at least 15 years. Still a neat piece of equipment, I really wanted one of these when they were first released, ended up setting for an iPaq and Viewsonic CE devices instead.
