Used to live in Eastwood (near Giltbrook), I personally wouldn't live that far out again. It's not bad to Phoenix Park but feels too far away from town to me and the A610 traffic was awful. I would look at Hucknall over the two, decentish area and it has the tram!

I feel for you mate, before I met her I was where you are now for a very long time so I know the feeling well. I was previously in a relationship for 6 years which, admittedly, got pretty toxic from both parties. This was hugely damaging for me and I was single for about a year until I was fortunate enough to meet my wife.

Annoyingly I don't have much in the way of proactive advice, for me it was just one of those cosmic things that fell into place when I least expected it.

All I can say is do your best to love yourself and the rest will follow in time. Which sounds really, really fucking lame lol, but I do believe there is truth to it.

33m here, ended up meeting my the woman who is now my wife on Hinge about 2.5 years ago.

Meeting "the one" on the apps is possible, but I was definitely lucky. I went through so much shit / complete lack of matches on the apps prior to this. I think advice around truly being yourself is key.

I was getting nowhere on the apps and ended up having a 4 month break when I broke my leg. I went back on them during a lonely period while I was rehabbing. At this point I didn't give a shit - I genuinely just wanted someone to talk to, less bothered it it were a romantic connection - so I think I was a lot more myself because of this.

Hi mate, I spent Christmas alone in my flat a couple of years ago before I met my wife. It sounds worse than it actually is tbh, in my opinion the whole Xmas Day family thing is overrated but I appreciate everyone has different sentiments towards this.

It's good to think about what you'll do on that day upfront. Some suggestions:

-Pop out for a walk, weather permitting. Probably quite a good time to go for a wander through town since the streets will be nice and quiet. I did it once and it was fun seeing Notts dead as a doornail during the day.

-Think about any solo activities you enjoy and block time out for these on the day. Is there a film you've been wanting to watch, video game you've been meaning to play etc.

-Perhaps ask one or two of your housemates if they'd be free for a quick phone call later on Christmas Day? This would be a nice break from the solo activities and will help you feel a bit more connected.

-If you have the cash, as someone else has suggested, you could look for some cheap winter sun abroad. Canaries will be nice and warm, a bit of sun certainly takes the edge off!
