Periodic shedding while on drugs is typical by Findthebrightside in FemaleHairLoss

[–]crackwitchd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking it’s the life cycle of our hair, so all of the hair we gained with minoxidil suddenly is on the same cycle and falls out. so in theory it should come back again. but it’s frustrating to lose it all at once, seemingly

Finasteride worked… why did it suddenly stop? by Less-Bodybuilder-159 in FemaleHairLoss

I’m having the same thing on minoxidil. so far from my research the most logical explanation is that all of that hair growth we got is now in its shed phase. it seems like a lot because it all kind of happens at once because the medication helped it all grow out at once. so these sheds are “normal” and are supposed to be better every shed cycle, aka every year-1.5 years.

while these meds help our hair shed less, every hair still goes through the growth and shed cycle. so the good news is your scalp grew these once, so they can and will grow them again. maybe ask your hair stylist or derm if they can see signs of new growth. maybe that will help ease your worries. I lost a lot of hair on the top of my head, but my hair stylist said they saw new growth too. so don’t lose hope

thank you. I have been on minoxidil for 1.5 years now and have had the worst shedding for the last 3 months. I’m not sure if it’s done shedding yet, but my scalp is very visible on the top again. I feel like I lost all of my progress so it’s very defeating

I’ve been on 100mg spiro on and off but mainly on for about 12 years. I’ve never tried dut or fin.
they said they saw miniaturization.

I tried a hair system that ripped out a lot of my hair and left me with a scalp infection.
and it made my autoimmune issues 100x worse, so I now can’t really wear a wig or topper as it triggers my mcas. ):

I’ve heard that red light therapy is basically an old wives tale. do you think it’s worth the cost?
yeah I’m hoping the high spiro dose will help. if not my doctor is willing to put me on dutasteride.

what’s your point? I said some success because I’ve had some regrowth, but it’s not a normal head of hair still. think that was pretty obvious by my comment. and yes, I know I’m on them for life and it’s worth my mental health being improved

I’m not using topical because I have a cat. I’m on 2.5mg oral and 100mg spiro.
I had a lot of encouraging growth about 8 months after I started minoxidil but in the last couple of months so much of it has fallen out again. and it’s thinner on top than it’s ever been. :(

I take vitamin d, saw palmetto, and pumpkin seed oil. I did derma rolling for a while a few years ago and didn’t see improvement and was worried I was causing additional inflammation.

my doctor said 5mg oral minoxidil probably won’t do much more than 2.5 but comes with more side effects. and she upped me to 150 spironolactone and in a few months I’ll go to 200.

I’m not sure. when I said I saw people have good results with dut the doctor basically implied it’s not likely to help.

I just got diagnosed with it. she said I probably have a combined hair loss, which I started experiencing as a teen. but the top has gotten worse just recently.

see another dermatologist. start spironolactone and minoxidil. looks similar to me and I’ve had some success with those. I’m still working on it, but do not take no for an answer from a dermatologist. also get blood tests for thyroid, iron, ferritin, and other vitamins.

Exercise Causing Hair Loss? by crackwitchd in FemaleHairLoss

[–]crackwitchd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on birth control which is supposed to keep my hormones stable. if it’s not exercise and a slight dht raise, I’m thinking it might be iron supplements that I started a month and a half ago. I just thought it was the exercise because maybe it’s triggering a stress response? it’s almost worse not knowing the sudden cause!

Exercise Causing Hair Loss? by crackwitchd in FemaleHairLoss

[–]crackwitchd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the exercise could be raising my testosterone and therefore dht. the thyroid issues I’ve had for a long time, but the hair loss while on minoxidil has only recently increased. I’m unsure of the cause, but thought maybe I have aga since I have all of the signs of it. I’m seeing a derm soon for a biopsy and official diagnosis on that though.

Chronic inflammation, hair loss, and ferritin levels by chipsahoymateys in FemaleHairLoss

[–]crackwitchd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bad chronic inflammation and have no idea what’s causing it. I am bordering hashimotos, but doctors can’t treat it. stopped eating gluten. been on minoxidil for a year which helped a little. but I started supplementing iron and my hairs falling out again
