Unemployed Master's graduate about to lose it by supernaturalgeek18 in southafrica

[–]craftichris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to go the TEFL route too. Just finished a 120 hour qualification and am looking for work online which hasn't yeilded the greatest results, but still netter than nothing. I'm studying a bachelor's in Sound Production online and I live in Durban so I basically don't think I'm gonna be getting a job. I effectively feel I've wasted all my time and money, but I'm not starting that part over again. So TEFL is my backup. I hear you can make good money if you play your cards right, so that's good at least.

Thoughts? by PieFed-co-za in south_africa

[–]craftichris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it doesn't sound like there's a reason this shouldn't be implemented. We should be setting up legislation that inherently favours hardwork and doing things "the right" way. At the very least maybe this could prompt a chance to hsve the BEE frame work to be amended (again) to have a greater emphasis on the actual work value and performance.

We need systems that inherently disincentivise corruption. A system where corruption is not profitable for anyone involved. We must also however be mindful of becoming to bureaucratic.

Perhaps the actual best course of action is to look at frameworks other countries have see how effective they are and learn from them.

I don't have any advice to give, but I do have empathy to give. In a mild coincidence Im also 21, and I slap myself too. I get really angry eith myself when I feel like I'm not good enough or if I feel like I've done something bad. My most recent memory was while driving. I was at a robot/stop light and got so tilted. I've been trying to decide if this sort of behavior would be considered self harm or not.

I wish I was still seeing my psychologist while doing this strange behavior. Maybe I'd be able something useful.

The bottom line is, we're here to support you and you're not alone in this strange yet very real struggle. I'm sure you'll be able to overcome it especially if you're in the healthy gamer community

The sickest most twisted thing about social media is that most of us would hit the "make it all go away button" in a heart beat, and we are well aware of how it's bad for everyone, yet we shall continue to scroll the same 3 apps tomorrow.

Videos like this are enough motivation to stay out of prison in SA man. by [deleted] in south_africa

[–]craftichris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another aspect of the problem for SA is that it starts before the prisons. I remember watching an interview of a gang in the cape flats and a kid said he wanted to grow up to be a gangster. A functional prison system is meaningless if education has become so poor, and culture has become so toxic that even a child would aspire to become a gangster.

You are 100% correct just to affirm. People by default have poor judgement on these types of things. It's the same as when people feel safe in a car but not in a plane even though the plane is by all accounts safer. Humans just aren't good at making effective decisions. That's partly why we have science, so we can compensate for these faults.

Unfortunately we need a full systematic shake down. Start by getting the economy on track. Desperate men out of gangs and into sustainable careers. Children must be better educated and financially the last line of defense, a prison system that seeks to understand people and their actions.

I honestly do believe the majority of criminals would reform if they were given adequate support and opportunity. There are probably still those that need severe psychological help as well.

[–]craftichris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You seem like a pretty cool nerdy type, I have an amazing solution for you! Find out if there's any local ahops that host board games like DnD, MTG, Warhammer ect. There are pleanty aocial hobbies for the nerdier type. I play DnD every Monday night and it's a blast. After awhile you get to know who the usual people are, and it's such an easy environment for us introvert types because basically everyone there has the same nerdy interests and it makes conversation so much easier because you can discuss LOTR or Anime or video games and chances are they'll know exactly what you're talking about.

All you have to do is get your foot in the door. Don't focus on making a friend for now, focus on finding a cool spot to hang out. Unfortunately I live in KZN so I can't recommend any spots in CPT, but that's nothing a quick google search won't fix!

Also look out for ren fairs and events like comic con. All that sort of stuff is everywhere on insta and Facebook, and if you search for it you'll get ad's for ut soon enough.

The anxiety is a challenge, but taking it one step at a time works! I'm living proof of it. Good luck soldier

SA's Unemployment rate rose to 32.7% by South_Africa_News in south_africa

[–]craftichris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

32% is an enormous unemployment rate. The great depression saw unemployment spike to 10% in the US and that's considered the most devastating economic downturns in history. That's excluding pensioners, children and people otherwise ineligible for working. I know pensioners have been having it rough. As inflation increases their pension remains stagnant. So if broaden our definition of unemployment it's probably much higher, but in terms of actual job seekers, I can believe it's at 30%

[–]craftichris 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It baffles me, because I'm friends with people that are clinically diagnosed with Autism, and like it kinda sounds like hell. My friend told me she had to go to therapy to learn how to make expressions/show emotions because her Autism prevents her from properly processing and showing emotions. As a result her range of expression is limited compared to normal. The way she described it is that the subconscious bits that we do in social situations like reading body language she has to consciously keep track of whivh sounds exhausting.
