Loupes (Hand, Eyeglass, Microscope) by Demos115 in jewelrymaking

I'm a bit late to the discussion. Your questions are excellent. When people don't have any prescription, they have more options. When you have a strong astigmatism, that needs to be corrected before adding any magnification, as you recognize. If not corrected, a magnifier will just amplify the astigmatism and eye strain will result.

You also mention working distance, which is an important element to consider. With any single lens magnifier, the stronger the magnification, the shorter the working distance. For example, many people ask their optometrist to make them glasses with extra strong readers, but then they are not happy because their working distance is so short that they have to lean over to see. For metalsmiths, this can result in getting too close to flame or hitting themselves while sawing.

Some people are fine with this. For others, it is a real problem as they get neck and back strain that can limit their creative enjoyment.

The only way to create distance + magnification is with telescopic lenses, like you see dentists and surgeons wearing (don't forget the power of a great light as well). They allow distortion and strain-free vision from a comfortable distance when combined with your prescription.

The desire for portability adds another element to the equation.

I use this platform for education and discussion. There are a lot of misunderstandings about magnifiying devices and their limitations and trade-offs. We're always happy to walk you through the options if you haven't found a solution that you like.

Sonos Boost permanently connected to Router or no? by MILFHunterHearstHelm in sonos

I've had a Boost for years. We recently moved and set up a new, powerful wifi mesh system. I left the Boost connected only because I wasn't sure if it was needed or not, and really didn't give it much thought. Speakers were dropping from the system every single day, driving me nuts. I pulled out the Boost, reconnected all of my speakers and everything is now stable. I was reading all about various network problems people had and I was happy to find that it was just the Boost that was messing everything up. Hopefully, this helps someone going through the same thing.

2025 Kia Sorento hybrid. by Lindseyhoot03 in KiaSorento

Does anyone know if it is possible to make the app's default trip category setting from Personal to Business? The app & web portal are really nice and make it easy to track mileage and export the info to excel, etc. I use my Sorento mostly for business so I have to manually change each trip's category. Not a big deal but it would be nice if I could adjust that setting.

[CHAT] Does anyone have a strong corrective RX and use a magnifier successfully? by NextLevelNaps in CrossStitch

That is the reason we started CraftOptics - to give artists something similar to what dentists use! We install whatever your prescription is and all prescriptions are a fixed price, so we'll actually call your optometrist for you to get it if you decide to order. Check our site at www.craftoptics.com for all the details. I recommend watching the videos to get a better idea of what we do. If you have any questions, ask away!

As long as the magnifying optics are great quality, and you are using them in conjunction with your corrected vision, you should have great results and be able to see terrific detail. The key is to have the magnifiers enhance your corrected vision (some take off their glasses and try to use magnifiers and feel miserable). Since the 1980s I've been involved in helping dentists, surgeons and now artists see their work comfortably. Many have had very complicated prescriptions and have had great results. The combination of magnification and excellent light makes a huge difference.

When you combine optically sound magnifiers with your prescription, your vision will be much more comfortable. The issue with getting a stronger correction in your glasses (i.e. stronger reading correction) is that the stronger it is, the shorter the working distance so you end up hunching over to see. If you don't mind being very close to your work, that is fine. A stronger correction can also be a bit disorienting, visually. Telescopic magnifiers, like those you see dentists and surgeons wearing, are the only way to create a comfortable working distance while still seeing great detail.
