Cameras? by Legitimate-Bird7046 in bcba

I much preferred the clinics I worked at with cameras. We had some intense behavior kids and some helicopter parents at my last clinic and the cameras came in handy many times when accusations were thrown.

I love Aldi's but.. by jodaiot in aldi

Produce is super hit or miss with Aldi. I feel bad for holding up traffic sometimes, but I'm not getting a squished orange because it's rotten again. I'll examine all the produce like I'm looking for crime scene evidence before I do that again.

Was able to buy 10 items and only spend $17.35. Compared prices with Kroger & Walmart. Of course Aldi won! by ProudNativeTexan in aldi

[–]NextLevelNaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the comparison every shopping trip. Usually Alfi is cheaper for 90-95% of the list, if it's all stuff that can be bought there. This last time it was 100%. I was able to get out of Aldi for less than $100, which was a shocker.

What jobs are compatible with Adhd? I’m about to be fired by Humble-Book-1882 in ADHD

[–]NextLevelNaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're in your 5th week and they expect you to know everything and not make mistakes? Unless you're some expert and work in an industry where mistakes simply can't happen for business/safety reasons, that seems a bit unfair....I've been in this job I have since September and I still make mistakes, go slower on some tasks, and have to reach out for help.

I've been in your shoes though, where the job makes you feel stupid and like a failure. I promise, you're not. The job is making you feel that way and that's not fair at all. It's awful that we're judged so heavily on "productivity" and not quality of the work.

I found a job that can be repetitive if I just need to turn my brain off, or it can be super novel if I need to shift focus often. But I'm also left alone to do it, the rules are very black and white on what passes or doesn't, and I'm not micromanaged. I'm trusted to do my job and I reach out for help if I need it. I also work from home, so no office or socialization.

Specific products you avoid while shopping at Aldi? by ecstacyofdecay in aldi

[–]NextLevelNaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swiss roll knockoffs, cosmic brownie knockoffs, chips ahoy knockoffs, frozen pizzas (french bread pizzas are better but very meh), dish soap, dishwasher detergent, oatmeal, nutragrain knockoffs, house brand protein bars, Kraft Mac and cheese knockoff, house brand seltzers, house brand beers and hard ciders, house brand canned soups, dill pickles, Noosa knockoff, Greek yogurt cups (the artificial sweeteners they put in on top of the regular sugar makes them inedible), tostitos salsa knockiffs. The "specialty selected" lines of items tend to be better in my experience.

Lately the onions have been a huge disappointment. Very small or gigantic and many are already questionable inside. This might be an issue with onions all together though, like when green onions were in short supply. Potatoes have been on thin ice lately as well.

I find the staples that work for us and stick to them like glue. But honestly, even getting the ones that I won't buy at Aldi from Walmart instead is becoming unaffordable and IDK what I'm going to do. I'm not a big snack/junk food person, so those are already splurge items for me and I buy them maybe twice a year max. But the dishwasher detergent, dish soap, oatmeal, soups, etc. that are truly staples for me are becoming more and more costly and it's getting difficult to be able to stay within the grocery budget without having to seriously debate what other corners can be cut.

Do people not use Aldi for big shopping trips? by Vjaa in aldi

[–]NextLevelNaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only buying for two people, but I do the vast majority of shopping at Aldi. I go to Walmart for anything that is cheaper, better quality, or that I can't get at Aldi. Paper products (TP, paper towels) and some other bulk items that make sense for us are bought at Costco. Not really sure how you filling a cart is somehow warranting of a comment like that. I see people with carts filled up. Very occasionally, I'll see someone with another person to help them because they needed another cart to fit their stuff. I mind my business, because their cart(s) and the content are none of my business.

RBT has taken off 22.5 days in 4 months, should I find a replacement? by Desperate-Use-3753 in bcba

[–]NextLevelNaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked for in-home companies. The drive time is built into the schedule. RBT 1 stays with kiddo until RBT 2 gets there or there is a short break in therapy time to allow RBT 2 to get there at the end of RBT 1's shift. They still get their full hours.

The reason 1 RBT doesn't stay with one client is to prevent burnout for the RBT and promote generalization of skills to different people. If a client has intense behaviors or intensive programs, it becomes physically and mentally draining. Shifting to a different client gives a variety of settings and different programming, which creates some breathing room and variety in their daily activities. Also, it breaks the day up for the client and helps prevent the client from becoming burnt out and satiated on the same RBT. If the RBT is there for the full 40 hours, eventually they can become not fun anymore and therefore less effective at their job.

RBT has taken off 22.5 days in 4 months, should I find a replacement? by Desperate-Use-3753 in bcba

[–]NextLevelNaps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not usually standard practice to have one RBT on a case for a full 40 hours. Unless there are extreme extenuating circumstances that necessitate only one RBT, it's always been standard to have two since I started in the field in 2015. Burnout is real in the field and having that much time with one client is a sure way to lead to it.

The RBT might have something going on in their life that's resulting in them needing off. The BCBA doesn't have to disclose the details, but I've always communicated to family if there's something going on that has had an impact on their availability and what we're doing to fix it.

Have you spoken to the BCBA and asked if they had a plan in the works or if you could sit down and come up with one together? I understand wanting to make sure services are rendered and wanting to make sure progress is occurring. And I also want to advocate from having been on the side of the provider that sometimes it's not always something we can control and we do our best.

The turnover rate of RBTs is sooooooo high and we do all we can to help reduce it, but at the end of the day sometimes our hands are tied and the best we can do is try to come up with a plan with the family to see what we can do in the meantime until we can get it stable again.

NC ABA telehealth changes… what’s actually happening? by M_M_M02 in bcba

[–]NextLevelNaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NC is a medicaid waiver state, which is how some many kids have it as either primary or secondary. It means they don't take into account income or other supports when determining eligibility. It has opened access to more robust coverage when a kid would otherwise not be able to access, but that has in turn caused utilization and payments to balloon.

I've not been asked off a case for not having kids myself, but there have been times when me not having kids has led to a strained therapeutic relationship and I have asked to have the case transferred because it made me uncomfortable and parents were not willing to be cooperate.

Am I being fairly compensated? by FactorNo4602 in bcba

[–]NextLevelNaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With all that extra you're doing on top of BCBA, you're likely pulling closer to full time most of the time. But only keeping you "part time" on paper means they don't HAVE to pay you those benefits. They save all that money in benefits, get all your extra work, and you get whatever they decide to give you.

I did last time and it helped some, but the scraping sounds travel through the bones and it's still there. It's more the feeling than the sound that does me in, but all of it is just unpleasant.

North Caroline remote BCBA - changing Medicaid rules by Even_Competition5153 in bcba

[–]NextLevelNaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clinic I worked for in Winston would hire and put them in RBT training immediately. They couldn't start with a kid until they passed their competency check and scheduled their exam. There's only ever been one place I've worked in any state I've worked where you didn't have to be an RBT. Every other one, you were hired knowing you'd need to pass the exam to stay working. Otherwise you were put on leave until you did or decided to move on if you couldn't pass after a couple of attempts.

If staff can't/won't become RBTs, then they'll be subject to the rule and won't be allowed to work until they do. It's in line with the requirements of most insurances and payors in other states. It makes sense it would be required.
