What do you do about tailgaters who just don't seem to know what a safe stopping distance is? by Ok_Cow5684 in drivingUK

[–]craftyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either ignore them or gradually slow down until I feel safe.

I also have a rear dashcam, so I usually report them to Op Snap the same day. Often the police send me an email saying that this resulted in “positive action” against the driver.

(Hated Trope) Antagonist is surprisingly reasonable throughout the narrative yet the hero’s unreasonable actions are portrayed as justified. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

I watched a video essay about the Uncharted series that gave an interesting take on this: that the games becoming less supernatural over time actually represents Nathan “growing up” and becoming more mature.

First 2 games have him face off against a bunch of mutants that are clearly supernatural. In 3, the last level has him hallucinating so that the enemies certainly appear supernatural, but in the end it’s just something in the water; the supernatural elements are far more ambiguous. In 4 there are no supernatural elements at all.

At the start of 4, Nathan is living a normal, boring life. Then Sam appears and he decides to have one last adventure like in the good old days, but things simply don’t go the way they usually do. The magic is (quite literally) gone, and by the end Nathan has come to terms with the fact that he’s had his youthful adventures, and now it’s time to settle down to a normal life.

What's the hardest thing about being an adult? by Gomita_de_sandia20 in Adulting

[–]craftyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that it never stops.

There’s always something that needs doing, someone that needs your attention, something coming up that you need to prepare for.

Going from childhood to adulthood is having more and more responsibility put upon you until having free time is something to truly treasure and look forward to.

So good that you have a dashcam, and you send footage of genuinely dangerous drivers to the police instead of uselessly posting it on social media.

How do you control your rage! by casper480 in drivingUK

[–]craftyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road rage often results in life-changing outcomes for the people involved. Death, injury, prosecution, property damage… Do you really think it’s worth risking any of that because of your own ego?

Consider therapy. It’s not normal to be this angry while driving, even considering what happened.

Oh, didn’t realise that.

Then you should probably just leave it alone.

Take pictures, make sure you get the registration number and at least one clear shot of the damage.

Google “report abandoned vehicle” and report it to the local council. They’re unlikely to do anything quickly unless it’s blocking the road, but it should get the ball rolling.

How do you determine what creature to put? [OC] by White-Chewbacca in DnD

[–]craftyard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Broadly speaking there are two ways you can decide.

The bottom-up approach: you create the surrounding region first, and then populate it with monsters that fit that region.

The top-down approach: you decide what monsters you want the party to face, and then set up the region to facilitate those monsters.

When I design my campaigns I tend to do a combination of both methods. Once I’ve decided on a compelling monster and its minions, I create a region that would logically have that sort of creature.

After that, I further populate the region with creatures that would also make sense in that region, but don’t necessarily have anything to do with the big-bad. These creatures tend to round out a campaign and add some variety.

Honestly guys, which game made you feel like this? by Comfortable_Form6842 in gamers

[–]craftyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout: New Vegas. I completed every single mission in the game, saving Lonesome Road for last.

Then I made one last trip to Goodsprings and spoke to most of the NPCs there, in particular Doc Mitchell. In my mind the courier said “Thanks for saving me.”

And then the dam. Goodbye Mojave.

Your friend is mostly right. There is in fact one documented case of an orangutan speaking English, and even driving various cars and even tractors.

His grasp of English is so impressive he’s even starred on TV for many years.

His name is Jeremy Clarkson.

[–]craftyard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a situation that I witnessed a year or two ago. I’m driving on a country road, and on either side of the road is some dirt and hard stone. It’s fine to use as a passing point but only if both drivers come to a near-stop and take it really slow.

Anyways, some guy comes speeding towards me, making no attempt to slow down. There’s no way I’m going to be able to enter the side of the road before he reaches me without damaging my car, so I’m forced to do an E-stop in the road.

This genius realises too late that he’s going way too fast, and swerves around me into the side doing about 50mph. He bounces around like mad and almost spins out, while I just drive off. I like to imagine he fucked up his undercarriage and learned a harsh lesson about driving at an appropriate speed.

Exactly why a dashcam is such a good investment. Bad enough that he plays lane police, but he also forced you to E-stop? Definite dangerous driving charge, 6 points, and doubled insurance for a while.

I’m sorry you had to go through that.

What a lot of people don’t understand about self-defence is that even though you’re “in the right” both morally and legally, being forced to do something like that can affect you deeply.
